Problems logging into main site.

Greetings, all.

Haven't been to site for a long time, and noticed a few changes.  Tried to log in, but it kept saying I was an invalid user.  So, I read the FAQ and rules, and figured my account must have been pruned.  I tried setting up a new account, and it let me, but it never asked for an email address.  After setting up the new account, I tried to log onto the main page, but it kept saying invalid user.  However, when I came to the forums, I was able to log in.  Any idea of what is going on?  Should the site have asked for an email?  Did I end up setting a non functioning account?

Clear your cache and cookies.

Cleared my cache and cookies.  Still no luck.  Now it is saying need to have cookies enabled, which I do.  Even tried closing and relaunching Firefox.  Any other ideas?
