i looked up LG nexus4 here, quite a shock, its even more expensive at $500...
asus nexus7 though on the other hand is about $350 for the no 3G, i'm expecting them to import the one with a sim slot as well and a mark-up to $450 i guess.
on second thought though, it might not be possible to use it as a phone.
PS: i'm targeting their 32GB variants, i'd get to fit a few 720p animes with that much space at least, 15GB is reserved for pictures, books, mangas, apps and music.

You're buying from the google store right? They sold out for the time being so all the other carriers jacked up their prices. It's being sold here for £239/£279. I have a hard time believing they'd charge you guys double.

nah, buying from local stores. importing anything has a mark-up of anywhere near 50-200%, depending on which customs supervisor you end up with.
