Mobile Forum Browser
« on: January 04, 2013, 04:49:12 PM »
So, I got a smartphone, and it's cool and all, but browsing this site is quite annoying. I was wondering if there was an alternative to just using Chrome to browse the forum.

Any suggestions?

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Some people have mentioned Tapatalk, although I don't use it myself, so I don't know if it's good.
Edit: Apparently this forum isn't supported, so disregard what I said.

Tapatalk houses over 35,000 of the most popular public forums right inside the app. From online games to technology, animals to extreme couponing, there is a forum out there to suit your interests. Browse the 13 categories or search for a particular forum in Tapatalk's easy-to-use interface. You can find anything and everything with this app.

I dont think tapatalk would work. It also sounds like it would be a lot of work to code the forums to work on a mobile device.

I agree that a mobile version of the site would be nice. Endless side to siding to read a post on the full version can be tedious.

If you double tap the browser should zoom and auto scale the text.

Chrome works fine with the site on my tablet. Between double tap and pinch to zoom you really shouldn't have any issues.

I use Opera Mobile on my phone and again I have no problems with this site.

I have also used Dolphin HD with this site and it works well.

So in answer to my question...no?

I gave two alternatives in my post right above what you just posted....

Firefox and xScope (paid) are another two.

Or are you looking for an app like Tap Talk, not an alternative browser?

Don't all those forum apps require coding on the administrative end to work? None of them can just automatically convert a forum right?

Tapatalk for forums is not much work, but we got more feedback against it than demand for it so it was scrapped.
For the tracker it would require a shit ton of work, and will probably never ever ever ever ever ever happen.

Yeah, Tapatalk might be nice for people who use the app, but for everybody else it's very annoying to have to deal with the "This forum supports Tapatalk!" popup everytime we visit the site on our mobile.

Incidentally, I don't really have any problems reading the site using the default Android browser. It's slightly annoying having to zoom in on each page to be able to read it, but it adjusts the layout of the text etc when you do, so there's no need to scroll from side to side to read it.

The only thing it doesn't like is when I accidentally click on the Desktop and Wallpapers thread without thinking. All those giant images upset it slightly :P

No. Why would I? Its easier when it's vertical.

It may be easier to hold one handed but landscape provides a much better view when you can use both hands. If you are only browsing in portrait then you are missing out on the full experience.

Well, when it's zoomed in, it's easier to read a paragraph of text when it's vertical, I find. Obviously if you want a wider view of an entire webpage, landscape is better, but for just reading forum posts (which are entirely text), portrait feels better. Probably because it feels odd when there are only a few lines of text on the screen, even though it has the same amount of text as it does in portrait view. I prefer more, shorter lines.
