Dogs are preety easy to manage. You just need to stay calm and act in assertive ways. Punish them when they do something wrong, Do nothing when it's neutral and praise when they do right. Don't talk much to communicate, just use the full body and some non-verbal sound to communicate. This works quite well with my friends' and my neibour's dogs.
Force them to calm down and not to be anxious or dominant. They are not human, so don't treat them as such. A dog that doesn't do much is a dangerous dog.

I will stick with no animals, personally. I've lived with dogs & cats, and while they can be fun, I hate the responsibility of having to take care of them. Pretty much the same reason why I absolutely will not have children.
