Indeed. I do agree it beats almost everything else with that respect.
Facebook is good if you have reason to associate socially. If you don't want to, or don't need to, then it is quite useless. it has flaws, but so does human interaction. Finding WHAT you want to use it for is sort of the challenge. I feel the same way about Twitter.

You guys don't seem to be aware of things under the hood, but I'm not gonna start a rant about facebook on this thread.
Twitter I have no problems with though.
Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of you fighting the power. I don't have anything on facebook worth stealing for information.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Facebook doesn't make me feel like I'm socializing, it's too introverted for that.

Intro, or extroverted, socializing has it's benefits.

Does this make you feel like you are socializing?

Partly, meaningful socialization is reciprocal.

This site isn't about "me", however innocuously egotistical I am, if I contribute nothing of worth I get nothing out of being here. I can't disguise my lack of personality with memes, prattle, or "friends" who know me. Forums are the definition of a meritocracy.  The "real" here is the esteem (or lack thereof) you can garner from members through your comments, ideas, arguments, suggestions, and humour. What you look like, who your parents are, what car you drive, whether you were popular back in high school, or can beat the crap out of me -- all these qualifiers of human interaction are ignored. It comes down to how well you can write and whether or not you're an asshole. If people don't like me here I can honestly say it's not because of superficial reasons. It's not much different than the archaic practice of exchanging letters. I don't want people to friend me here, I want to talk about subjects I rarely get the opportunity to in real life with people who care about the same things.

Facebook on the other hand, is the definition of narcissism. Unapologetically, one's hyperbolic self supersedes all else on Facebook. it's mostly phatic drivel, empty of consequence, and divorced from reality. The glaring falsehoods of so many of my genuine friend's Facebook site's are not a result of their various personality disorders -- for the most part. It's simply what the site drives you into being, superficial hyperreality is pedestrian there, almost expected. It's like a dating site where you can comfortably assert that you aren't actually going to have your bubble burst on that first date.

Facebook doesn't make me feel like I'm socializing, it's too introverted for that.
Intro, or extroverted, socializing has it's benefits.

I'm not referring to psychology of self-contained people, rather the nature of the medium.

And yet, we got you to write an essay about facebook.  A subject that regularly comes up in day to day life with people who care about similar things with you!

On Topic:  Weed

I had a really good laugh at this.

You know, I'm not a fan of weed either. Which is odd, because most everyone in my high school smoked weed like they were fucking Bob Marley, and on top of that, all of the people that only kind of knew me assumed I was a huge stoner...
I hear special K is a good time though.

Meh, a few are into the general art form and know the big shows. They aren't really into talking about it though, and we don't actively download fansubs of newish shows. Come to think of it, I don't really participate in anime/manga discussion much compared to some, but I appreciate people's insights.

There's also an appreciation of being able to form opinions with more forethought and depth than I'd have in a verbal or chat conversation. The sort you might put into an email or letter, but that has far less interactivity.

Another thing I learned, complaining about Facebook on Facebook apparently makes you a hipster.

Good jab there Nikkoru, I do like that. Gotta drop that elbow for that one.

Complaining on Facebook, about Facebook, and how you're too hipster for Facebook!

Man, it's hipster overload.

Nope, because there are very valid reasons to hate apple, like for example the fact that an apple'll cost you twice as mutch as a pc and the pc is still better equipped in terms of hardware. And that people are stupid enough to pay for it. Although that is something were apple is not at fault but they exploid the fact of stupidity. That and the fact that their arrogance is second to none makes apple really unappealing.

Live concerts. I loathe them.

It might seem contradictory since I listen to music a lot.  (sometimes I sleep even with my earphones on :P)

Ketamine. Friends raved about it, but it I hated it.

I mostly agree, concerts are far too loud and painful, even with plugs. I think it has to be a band you really like to get anything out of it, though. I saw Tortoise last year and enjoyed it, even though the other two acts didn't appeal.

A Song of Ice and Fire.

I enjoyed the first 3 books, then I hit book 4 and I was done.  Several of my friends are huge fans of the show; I watched the first episode and couldn't bring myself to care.

It's weird:  I have a peculiar tolerance for certain things.  If a particular line is crossed with me, it's like flipping a switch.  I go from being a fan to having no interest whatsoever.  The last season of BSG did that for me as well, and the finale was just the icing on the cake.  I couldn't bring myself to get into Caprica, and whatever thing they've cooked up next doesn't interest me at all.

I think what it is is that I have no tolerance for drama for the sake of drama.  Characters acting inconsistently or just killing somebody off solely for the controversy annoys the shit out of me.  Martin's Song of Fire and Ice has developed that feeling, although he fooled me a bit at first.  The Walking Dead (the show, never read the comics) has also done that for me.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.
