Wait what? Only 12 episodes? I did not check but giving the slow pace I was fairly convinced it was a 24 episode anime. L O L.
So in 4 episodes the guy leaves does some fighting gets reunited with the girl and either the series ends right in the middle with an "epic cliffhanger" or ends rather stupid, either way so much potential wasted.

Screams for another season but if they keep up the slice of life it won´t be worth it.

Tokyo magnitude 8.0 is a completely different sort of anime, don´t compare apples and oranges.

Prediction taimu:

The combat fleet leaves, they get to the squids nest, pirates attack gargantia, combat fleet goes oh fuck, ledo loses it abandons the fleet and and makes a B line towards gargantia to save Amy.

Prediction 2

Splinter fleet gets to the nest, pillages some wrecks around it fight ensues but in the end Ledo wins and the splinter fleet gets some treasure.
Meanwhile the large squid swarm we saw earlier gets "informed" about what has happened to the nest and attacks Gargantia in retaliation.

They send a distress signal which is picked up by the robot, Ledo hurries back, barely fights of the squids saves Amy. Humans on earth now are at war with the squids as well.
End of season.

Prediction 3.

In next episode they'll focus on relations between people on new fleet (the one going on squid hunt). After 15 minutes of slice of life, Ledo in his robot, accompanied  by Kamina-clone in his Yunboro will start submerging, finally arriving at some great treasure (which will be some space technology familiar to Ledo). And then suddenly, lots of squids will appear on screen, and then... BAAAAM. Episode ends.

Prediction 4:

While splinter fleet fight shrimps, Gargantia will be attacked and massacred. Ledo will fly back to Gargantia to save them, but will come back in time to witness Amy being ripped to shreds by squids. He will then fly back to splinter fleet only to see it being annihilated too while he was gone.

Prediction 5:

They go to the Whalesquid nest to pillage it, but end up being stalked and attacked by whalesquids. Ledo attacks the whalesquids, but they for some reason self destruct and blow up Kamina and possibly more of the fleet. Maybe even Melty. I don't think we'll see Gargantia very much next episode.

Prediction #7: The splinter fleet finds , hunts and loots the whalesquid nest. Ledo kills a whole bunch of them. Great treasure is recovered! 
The Pirates (remember them?) have been watching and come after the treasure!
Meanwhile, other Revenge-Minded whalesquids  make a bee-line for Gargantia! Not to be fooled twice by the "silent running"!
Ledo must decide if he should fight Pirates, defend Gargantia or have a nap.

However... perhaps deep down inside, I knew something like this was going to happen. Way back in the beginning I'd thought that, maybe, the Hideazu (or however it's spelled) were some creations of humans... I was close enough to my hypothesis XD

Ledo's going to be going through his own sort of hell now I suppose.

I feel kinda guilty now for cheering on Ledo's destruction of the whale squid.
