Status bar (top of page) lists 3 downloads permanently

Hi,
My stats page lists 3 downloads even when I am not downloading anything.
I realize that "downloads" in bittorrent can only mean incompletely downloaded files, including torrents where I excluded some file from download.

I have reviewed all my torrent in uTorrent a couple times, and only 1 bakabt torrent had exlcluded files.  All the other torrents I have active are complete, and in any case, all are seeding.

I guess it doesn't matter much, unless one of those 3 were a bonus torrent in which case I wouldn't get credit.


Once again, I expect it to indicate just 1 for downloading (I have one torrent that will remain an incomplete seed).

Any idea what the issue could be, or how I can identify which torrents it thinks I'm "downloading"?  (I thought of trial and error stopping, waiting, starting again, but a pain since I'm seeding 266 torrents...a lot of trial and error)

Yeah, I kinda wish there was a way to list on the site exactly which torrents the numbers represent.

If your only intention is to switch the status of the mislabeled torrents from downloading to seeding, try stopping all of your torrents and then starting them all back up again. If you want, check your stats after stopping everything to make sure everything was moved from active to inactive. I personally find that the status change is instant, but that may be unique to my client.

Active > Inactive was more or less instant.
The status bar seems to take much longer to update.. It may update on a schedule, like every 15 minutes or something?

I gradually restarted the torrents in blocks.. I didn't have the time or patience to do small blocks and wait the full x minutes between each to see if they all showed up as seeds in the status bar or not,
But by the end I narrowed it down to somewhere among 60 of my (complete) seeding torrents lie the two that show up incorrectly as downloads.

After everything was restarted and stats updated, no change from what was previously reported.  If for some reason it drives me crazy I could resort to removing those torrents from my client (uTorrent 3.2.3 by-the-way) and adding them all back in again.. bit of a pain since I tend to move files and folders around, including splitting files to several locations at times..and would have to reset the correct file locations for all those torrents.

If by "status bar" you mean your recorded statistics, yes, those update approximately every 15 minutes. If you mean the status bar with the summary of your stats and number uploading/downloading, the number up/down should be as instant as the switch between active and inactive, I believe.

You could also try stopping your client (File->Exit in uTorrent, not the X button) and/or restarting your computer...

That I believe is what I mean .
On the line with the links/menus that looks like:

Everything there updates instantly for me except the numbers up and down after "A:".
Even the statistics on my main profile page (which don't mention how many torrents up/down) seem to update instantly.

The ghost "downloads" have been there for a couple weeks I think.  I have exited uTorrent and restarted the whole computer several times.  I guess the problem is on my end, maybe a corrupt data file for two of the torrents...

At first I assumed it was a fluke to do with when the tracker goes down, but now I'm thinking uTorrent may well be reporting incorrectly that a couple of my torrents are incomplete.  I have had a crash or two while uTorrent was running this month.

Hmm. Sorry for the "did you turn the printer on" question, but did you reload the page to check?

Also, in your uTorrent settings, look for a setting that has to do with shutting down gracefully, and make sure it's set, and then try the whole thing again.

Yeah, I've refreshed the page (even tried Ctrl-F5 to clear the cache), closed all windows and renavigated to the site.  Its looked like this on the order of weeks now.  If I stop all torrents, the numbers drop to zero after a few minutes, but restarting the torrents shows extra downloads.

One long shot that comes to mind is:  I am wrong and those statistics are right
I only remember intentionally downloading only part of one torrent.. And I have scanned the Size, Selected Size, and Downloaded Size columns in uTorrent for consistency several times, and other than what I am actively downloading at the moment, and the one partial torrent I remember -- everything is completely consistent with a full download and seed.  But I am a human and prone to errors.  And those columns due to their resolution leave room for the possibility of a very small file or two being skipped.  (e.g. sfv file).  I don't usually do that and don't remember doing that, but perhaps...

No problem on the line of questioning -- I'm not too proud to admit that even I overlook basic things sometimes.  I just wish there weren't so many gosh darn torrents to troubleshoot...

Heh, I guess it really is some torrents that were only downloaded partially.

SFV files are not supposed to be part of a torrent. They are supposed to be added as attachments to the site's torrent page. If you notice an SFV file in a torrent, you should make a comment on the torrent.

Here's a way to cut down on time. Take all of your torrents and put them in a list in your client. Start half of them, and check the numbers. If you see the number of downloads go up, stop half of that half, check the numbers again. If the number of downloads doesn't change, start half of the next half. Do this over and over until you zero in on the torrents that are marked as downloading. Using this method, you should theoretically be able to check 1024 torrents in at most 30 checks (10 checks per torrent you're looking for).

The binary method would be some help, but with ~ 15 minute delay for that status bar to update, it still would take some time.

However! Brilliant news, I had already narrowed it down to being among 60 torrents I'm seeding.. and today I had the brilliant idea of maximizing my uTorrent window, flipping to the Files tab and making it big.. my screen is hi res so a lot of data shows at once. I just arrowed down through those 60 torrents, while watching the files tab for the color red / skipped / incomplete files.
Took about 2 minutes!  and I discovered I am ..  .. to blame.

Actually, no SFVs or tiny files, it was major skipping in all cases, and intentioned at the time.
I realize SFVs are supposed to be attachments.  I did see one in some torrent or other once but I forget which   In the future I'll report it.
