Night Lights

This is hard to describe. I'm looking for a night light where you could turn it on behind your equipment, facing up or against the wall so that way it gives off a cool steamy atmosphere to the room. I searched "night lights" on amazon and got nothing good. Hope someone could tell me what they're called and if they could give me few links.

You want Ambient light and even then if you buy an Ambient light kit its more money then just buy the same LED light strip kit that is not sold as ambient light.  But if you want to spend the money for the controllers and such I used CYRON before myself and it is top notch but pricey

this or go to a nearby radioshack and pickup a few bits of LEDs and resistors, the usual USB wall charger is enough to power them up.
total cost would be much more lower than purchasing pre-built stuffs.

edit: two LEDs and one resistor in series is the ideal setup for a 5V source(consider this as a modulized setup, you can gang multiple sets of 2:1 LED:Res), resistor range can vary from 50-400ohms(going lower results into higher output), just don't go any lower than 50ohms or you risk burning up the LEDs.
edit2: also, you can theoretically fit 25 50ohm sets(thats 50LEDs) with a 500mA USB charger.
PS: LED and resistor prices goes by cents each, usually you can buy a pack of 20(LED)/100(Res) or so pieces with a dollar.

While the way is nice you need to at least add in the cost of breadboard, You are are doing just a straight series wire of them you will not get them all facing and aligned and it will show, Also the standard LED you buy will not shine uniform, you almost need surface mount LEDs other wise you will get bright circles of lights rather then a soft glow

that costs 150$ only difference is if you go with a cyron kit it will come with a controller to Wire each site of LED stands together if you want the option to change colors or sync with music, There is even a kit that will sync with the colors on your tv.

nah, you don't really need a breadboard to mount them evenly, with the proper solderworks you can mount them evenly.

the first one is much more easier to attain, even without soldering, just twisting their joints works since they're stiff as heck.

edit: a simple diffuser such as frosted plastic works to make the lit area even.

edit2: waxpaper works as well, and they're cheap as heck, potentially free if you got some on your kitchen.
edit3: i almost forgot, sanding the top of the led into flat~ish will act as a semi-diffuser, at the very least it won't look like a donut into your wall/ceiling.
