English Dub + Action + Marathonable (interest, not length)

based on your top 3 I would watch new hunter x hunter and one piece next
they are the only ones with lots of episodes that have the same level of action/epicness

I didn't watch one piece for ages either as pirates sound pretty lame but its now my fav, just after naruto maybe

not anime but avatar the last airbender is the only other one I've enjoyed as much, and don't need to worry about if the dub is good:)


for shorter stand alone series try sword art online and its worth watching fate/stay just for the film and prequal series after which are both outstanding

+1 for FMA also, the english dub for original is supposed to be pretty good I seem to remember

I've seen FMA: Brotherhood and don't intend to go back and bother watching an alternate retelling of it.
And I've seen Full Metal Panic... all of it.

Aaand I'd prefer things that aren't slapstick meaning that something like Trigun or Grenadier are out of the picture (I've actually started and stalled both at some point). So, I probably won't watch Great Teacher Onizuka either, since it looks like it's pretty much a comedy and that's not what I'm looking for right now.

Yeah, I'd say don't bother. I watched the original anime first and the story is amazing... until the last two episodes wreck everything. Absolutely everything. The Conqueror of Shamballah is comically bad.

May I ask what you didn't like about it? :/

And since you're leery about the Speed Grapher rec, I'll go more in-depth about it with a first episode (or two) spoiler.
(click to show/hide)Speed Grapher is about a photographer. He ended up being a war-time photographer and discovered that seeing bodies get shot all to hell and blown up while looking through the lens of his camera really turned him on. After the war ended, he pretty much became a crime scene photographer.

He hears about a secret organization, where any wish you want can come true. He investigates, sneaks his way in... and sees all the politicians and rich people there, doing some insane stuff. He ends up finding his way to where some ritual is happening, a girl floats down from the ceiling, gives him a bit of tongue... and next thing you know, his greatest desire comes true: whenever he looks through the lens of a camera and takes a picture, he blows shit sky high!

And then everyone is out to kill him.
