HDMI: Y U NO HD?
« on: February 21, 2013, 03:50:10 AM »
So, I am happily writing this from my new baby (her name is Mia)
(click to show/hide)
I install the drivers for the ASUS HD7950, I OC  I do my things, but all of this time the text is hard to read, its EXTREMELY sharp, like some retard photoshopper just overdid the sharpness effect. . .it looks AWFUL! the colors look noisy, everything looks noisy!

so I said, ok I'll use the DVI-to-HDMI converter and plug it into my DVI output on the card, which yielded the same results.

so I am currently connecting it through the VGA cable, the analog video. . .and it looks way WAY WAY better, I mean a million times better.

I've searched the web and many have this issue but they report it on TV's and usually they conclude its the TV's filters or something. . .this is a monitor, not a TV. . .and this did NOT happen with the nVidia 9800 GTX+ so I cant put the blame on the monitor only. . . the vid card is involved in this too. . .

This is my first Radeon card, and . . .well Im not too sure but this first 24 hours make it seem like it might be my last. . .
I've already played around in the catalyst settings, which also lists that my monitor can do 75 Hz but the Dell webpage says it only does 60 Hz. . .(??)

so, I am not too sure what to make of this so I came to this beautiful place full of knowledgeable people

(click to show/hide)

Has anyone had this problem and hopefully found a solution?

Should I just stick to VGA? (whats the difference anyway? other than analog/digital. . . how does that affect me?)

all LCD monitors can do 75hz at 600x800, so thats one question down.

i've not stumbled of such issue yet, quite unique too. its possible that it's the drivers though.

Um I gonna start by stating the obvious: Did you set your resolution to 1920x1080? I'm guessing that's the native.
Did you try looking at a high resolution image? To me it looks like that head thing is low res.
Did you download the latest driver from AMD?
Did you check if it's running in single display mode in ccc?
Leave the refresh rate at 60 Hz, most LCDs can only do 60 at native res.

You can do that through Windows as well.

No, but did you use clear type? I find that it makes text look better overall.

The real difference lies in the cable really. The only bad HDMI cable is a broken one, the quality of the cable has no effect on what you see on the screen. With an analog signal on the other hand, the cable is something you need to take into account.

If you're running that screen at 1080p/75hz, that means you overclocked it.

I re-did clear type, it helps with the fonts, but pictures and everything still seems odd.
I made everything larger so it looks a little better, but as I said, things look WEIRD! as if it was in 16-bit color, I have a picture of Alison Brie as my wallie and it seriously looks bad, like the skin tones dont seem to "fade" it seems like its using 16-bit crappy palettes. . .

anyways, heres a screenshot of my settings, it seems different from kitamesume's (since it says HDTV) but ITS NOT A TV! ITS A MONITOR!

oh this issue, i've heard of it before, its when a monitor is detected as a TV it ends up having poorer picture quality.
similar issue - http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33989557

first try to configure it through window's management.

Is it still identified as a TV after the dell drivers?
Try deleting all the monitor drivers (not the graphics driver) from the device manager, reboot, and let windows re-detect it.

I wouldn't be surprised if AMD's shitty drivers are the problem here.

Because VGA looks funky on 1080p.
Well not all the time but some monitors do seem to do it.

do the latter half, since you've seem to have did the former half.
if it really is only the wrong colorspace being used then forcing it to the right one will fix it.

also if you can, do what Fwind4 suggested before reinstalling DELL's drivers, possibly some older drivers got left behind.

Short answer: Digital gives you a pure signal.
More detailed answer: here's an article Digital Cables and Analog Cables

I dont hate it, TBH i dont even know whats the difference between digital and analog (in monitors)
I am using vga. . .but I would "assume" digital should be better? But apparently its not =/

Ill try that and if not, Im sticking to VGA and nVidia. . .(for my next vid card)

do you think its possible that it's a defective card though? try plugging the HDMI out on a different screen just in case, RMA it as soon as you can if it is defective.

what do you mean?

I plugged my TV through the HDMI and it works fine. . .but its a TV. . .so I cant really say. . .could you elaborate on your findings?

I already tried everything, it looks a lot better now. . .but still funky, and I still get it as an HDTV 1080p not as a monitor. . .
which therefore means
ergo, concordantly, vis-a-vis . . .
I am sticking to eVGA from now on. . .

as much as I love how this card looks (physically), and I will love it intensely (no homo) for years. . .it is the last Radeon I will own =/

*EDIT*

LOOK AT THIS!
If I connect via VGA I get this:

CRT. . .
so it went from an HDTV to a CRT. . . it just doesnt want to detect a regular beautiful LCD. . .

I am contacting dell to see whats up. . .but their webpage is such a fucking FAIL!
service tag where? (monitors dont have any?)
. . .sheesh how did such a beautiful monitor come from such a horrible company. . .

How the.......
I don't think it's a defective card, just Windows and the drivers.
Oh well, can't really help you much because I'm still on DVI and it never fail me once.

i'm guessing it's windows and drivers too, that really is unusual.

have you tried installing hydravision? it might be able to detect the monitor the proper way through it.

its probably something stupid in the drivers ATI is renowned for their shitty drivers.
It probably has something to do with some assholes in an office thinking what kind of an asshole uses HDMI on a monitor they have vga and dvi for that, and if your monitor has speakers its usually a tv at that point
