Why don't you try installing ZoomPlayer Free and see if you get the same issues? Maybe you'll even like it. It seems to be hit or miss with other members here.

This is exactly how I experience the problem. I play a random mkv, works flawless (regardless 8bit or 10bit). Open the next one in a series (tried with playlist and without, makes no difference) the subtitles are missing in some areas. For example the OP has them but the rest don't, most times it's completely missing. I open a different anime that's mkv, and it works fine, if I play another episode of the same anime it messes up again. If I restart my computer it works until it feels like messing up again.
Just my humble opinion, but if it varies from perfect to rubbish from ep to ep, and things like a reboot fix it for a brief moment, it sounds much more like a general corruption of your system than an issue with a specific player/codec not being adequate. Consider the general status of your PC. Perhaps it's time for a total system disk wipe...

I guess maybe you're on to something. I installed an SSD not too long ago though. Everything runs pretty optimal, and I have all my media on two seperate HDD's, having windows on the SSD. Maybe I will defrag the SSD but the problem is literally as described. The subtitles work until the mkv is closed, once the next one is opened from the same anime series it doesn't friggin work, but then another series does, and then it repeats itself. I'm about to cry :( I'm going to download other players, VLC worked fine until I noticed the terrible playback.

Pointless; there is zero benefit to defragmenting an SSD, due to the way its memory is accessed. Just shortens its life a tiny-winy bit.

I know, that's why I was skeptical of ever doing that, but hey I'm so desperate I was willing to try.

My general setup is Windows 7 64 Pro on an SSD, all other data on normal spinning SATA disks. Seems similar :P

For me CCCP/MPC works like a charm.

Try desperate measures like deinstalling player, then use CCCP Insurgent, follow up with cleaning the registry, check manually for installation remnants in Program Files, etc. Then reinstall CCCP off the shelf...

If that does not help, I'd make a hard reformat of the system. It just should work.

Sorry for the double post but I believe I found a fix, this may be of epic proportions

As I intently noticed every detail it took to recreate the problem, I noticed I use ccleaner a lot, even between playback (I live by ccleaner, been using it for as long as I can remember) and then I close the windows explorer window containing the mkv files and close mpchc. Then since ccleaner would delete cache files, the mkv icon's and all the other folders will reload and recreate some of those files, but restarting my rig recreates all those files hence why the problem doesn't exist once I restart.

Once I boot up and then not run ccleaner to delete those cumulative files that I'm used to deleting, subtitles load for every file without fail, no matter how much I try. So I check ccleaner to check the contents it was deleting, and I notice it was deleting "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Media Player Classic\default.mpcpl". CCleaner was the culprit this entire time. I spent so much time reinstalling mpc, trying different codecs, fiddled with all the possible settings.....

tl;dl

Don't use ccleaner while using mpchc.

Wow... I've been a Windows user for some 15-20 years, working with SW development, and I've not even heard of this ccleaner thingy...

Have some good watching now.

CCleaner, as well as just about all other automated registry cleaners, are — begging your pardon — pure shit.  I've had to reinstall Windows more than once for family/friends who used CCleaner or the other offerings out there.  For your own good, STAY AWAY.  You've seen just one of the pernicious problems these "utilities" can cause.  Some of them can break Windows.

CCleaner is actually pretty good, and it can come in quite handy in some cases. And it is good to do a little housekeeping with it every now and then (Not everything stored in the various Windows temp folders gets deleted when it should, and it's amazing how quickly that can build up and waste gigabytes of space, for example). That said, you do really need to pay attention to what exactly it's cleaning, in case of situations like this where it mistakes useful data for unwanted temp files. And if your computer's working fine, there's not much need to use it much, and if your computer isn't working fine, then it won't fix that.

We are getting off topic here.

I use VLC as my default player and I have not had any problems with it so far. As countless others have mentioned, try switching to a different video player if it bothers you that much.

There's this new codec pack, KCP. Try it out.
Sounds cute, though I'll keep using potplayer and mpc.
