for 10Bit - http://torrentfreaknews.blogspot.com/2013/03/high-10-profile-hi10p10-bit-encodes.html
this should give you an idea of what it is.
That was a good read. ^^
Having had some informatics lessons, I should have known better than thinking "Two bits more? That is almost nothing!" XD
Not knowing what was in those ten bits was a bit confusing though. "So there's video information in there... uh-huh. ?__?" was what I was thinking. So it's actually 10 bits (and 4x the information) within each colour of each pixel on each picture? That really sounds like a big deal now. Weird that I never noticed anything, must have been because computers these days are so powerful.

Psst... anyone knows a way to filter out 8-bit encodes from all of the encodes available? x__x
Most often it's not written if animes use 8-bit or 10-bit (except on bbt, but most additions in recent times have been 10-bit).

I dunno how off-topic this actually is, but i'll put the rest into a spoiler to be certain.

10-bit encodes are labeled, no?

yes by either 10-Bit or Hi10P

Bbt only has the best encodes for each anime and those tend to be 10-bit, so I'd like to look elsewhere, but I think it's not common to clearly label things as 10-bit or 8-bit.

But it should at least be indicated in the descriptions.

Sometimes it is, for example on coalgirls' site. But i really wonder if those without (10-bit) written on them are actually 8-bit, or if they only forgot to write it.
With my connection, randomly downloading stuff to find out would take a while. Hm... well nevermind. I should just be happy that thing can play almost all formats, so i don't have to avoid .flac oder .aac or stuff like that. :P

I've never encountered that problem if I'm honest. If it's not labelled as Hi10P or equivalent, it's pretty safe to assume that it's 8-bit.

10bit with low compression should do, they tend to play smooth enough, well stutters are hardly noticable i mean.

What do you mean with "low compression"?
Do you mean big files (=not very compressed) or very small files (=lots of compression, but less data)?
That question might seem stupid, but as i said, the 230mb episode i tried first lagged just as much as the 650mb episode i tried later. I didn't notice any difference...

By the way, is it normal that it takes ages for stuff to be transferred to the sd card? x__X
The (hopefully) 8-bit 1080p film i downloaded for testing purposes is large (10gb), but i still don't feel like it should take more than 3 hours for it to be transferred... i've been sitting here and waiting, because i've tried it a few times already and it always broke off at some point (last time when it was nearly finished!). Grrrr! Maybe it would be faster if i took the sd card out and put it directly into the computer...
I think it's kind of a bother taking it out, but then again, much better than sitting next to the computer for 6 hours trying to transfer a video file. ???

edit: I just realised that maybe you mean 480p encodes? :D
Because the resolution seems to matter much more than the filesize (makes sense when i remember the added load on the cpu is per pixel). I've already downloaded one to test it... just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'll keep that in mind. ::)
No 10+gb films, or at least i will take the card out so i don't have to keep that thing plugged in all the time.

So... it finally got to the end and THEN i got an error message, claiming "the file could not be copied". >__>;
I seem to be able to play it on the s4 though... wonder if it's the whole film or only a part got copied. Oh well...
Now that i test it, it seems to run fine, but i forgot the subtitles were not yet muxed (damn, why didn't they mux the subtitles?? xDD')!
Arrrrrrgh... also charging the phone for hours when it's already full probably isn't good for the battery. ._."
*sigh* *trying to mux the subtitles with the video on the sd card*
Oh well, that doesn't work. It's a forced japanese lesson then. :(

i meant low-bitrate + large size, which means it has low compression.

Oh! I didn't even know that existed! XD
*always thought big size meant high bit rate and vice versa*
That's what I'll be looking for next. Though I'll have to find a fool-proof way of getting big files on the Sd card first.

coincidentally they shouldn't be over 20MB per 1minute in filesize, which means they still will have the same 480MB file-size for the same 24minute clip.
on the other hand you'd notice that they have a whole less bit-rate than an equivalent 480MB 24minute clip.

^ think of it as like this:

bit-rate = raw file size
compression = ratio at which the file size decreases
so "bitrate x compression = file-size"

as to which why compression affects decode, its because decode speed is affected proportional to compression(e.g. decompress first before it can be decoded where higher compression ratio takes longer to decompress).

10bit is not the default. Hell it's not even used outside the anime community. So what concerns general users, it is the anomaly that needs be mentioned, not a file being 8 bit.

First thing first, SD cards' speed is measured in class. Class 2, 4, 6 and 10. With two being the slowest and ten the fastest. If you have a slow card, transferring will be slow.

Second thing, most storage uses the FAT32 filesystem for compability reasons. In other words, they do not support files larger than 4 gigabytes. If you wish to put larger files on the card, you will need to manually reformat it to either exFAT or NTFS. That might be why you got a such an absurd transfer time.

Ah, right. I was thinking it might be because of FAT32, but it's weird because i thought the sd card was formatted in exFAT. xD
I should have checked, but didn't really know where to look. (<- stupid)
I'll have to reformat...
Also, i don't seem to be able to mux the subtitles to the video i wanted to watch. Argh! I thought that would be easy...
Is it possible to have mx player use the subs for the video without having them muxed?

Ah well, i almost only watch anime.
A few times i tried getting a film or two, but the quality was always pretty bad, so i'd rather wait for the films to be on tv. (I don't have a tv, but my parents do.)
