Manga Recommendations
« on: March 12, 2013, 04:14:48 AM »
Resurrecting a dead thread. Please recommend me manga.

Here's my manga list. It's very mininal at this point as to why I am bring this thread back up.

Huge fan of romance, I don't mind smut, but I do not like romances that take ten volumes to advance the relationship of the characters. As in they don't even kiss until ten volumes in. Worst thing ever. However if the manga is really good, then I might consider it.

Action is also fine, however I haven't been able to find one I have enjoyed as much as Claymore.

The same author of Claymore did a manga called Angel Densetsu before. Art is rough, though you can see it developing into what became Claymore over the volumes. Has some action, but mostly a comedy with a (fairly well done) romance.

Then there's always Berserk, which Claymore isn't too far from resembling. Not finished though.

I don't feel ready to start a manga that is that long yet. Lol.

Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind - Sci-fi/fantasy (technology lost down to a mostly medieval level but some more advanced stuff still exists most importantly flying machines) Comparably short but lots content in for its length. Epic story.
Battle Angel Alita - Sci-Fi, violent. Very detailed art-style. Ongoing but you can read the first 9 vol and be done, the followup Last Order (now 17 vols) is sort of an alternative ending which IMHO does not have the same quality as the original.
Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason.

Since it's hard to rec based on what you like with so short a list, maybe Fushigi Yuugi, Ouran High School Host Club, or Chobits for romance? If you like love polygons and tangled romances, Nana might be worth a read for you.  If you like love comedies + action, there's Rumiko Takahashi's stuff like InuYasha and Ranma 1/2. Those relationships blossom pretty slowly, though.

You seem to like Vampire Knight, and I've heard Black Bird is very like it. Haven't read that one, myself.

-And if you like weird and dark romances with strange taboos and corruption as a major theme, there's Kaori Yuki's stuff like Angel Sanctuary or the Cain Saga + Godchild.

As we share exactly... zero manga, this is difficult :P

The only romance manga I've read where the relationship doesn't take forever to get going is Sundome. Probably falls into the smut category, but I view it more as a kinky rom-com. Very interesting relationship that develops quickly.

I started seriously reading manga two weeks ago, so at this point, my list is dry. However we share a decent amount of anime. I haven't gotten around to discovering how many anime follow their manga to a T and which ones don't. I want to read the ones where the manga and the anime differ quite a bit. I know Ouran is like that.

Thank you for the recommendations so far. I'll be checking them out.

Ah, I see. Welcome to the manga club then :P

Here's a couple other romance manga I found to be enjoyable, but they are slow starters.

Chikan Otoko
Hetakoi
Hoshi no Koe
