I don't mind fanservice at all and im not a male. I don't like ecchi genre though, because it tends to drive away from the story only to insert specific scenes, but thats okay since its ecchi right? But fanservice usually, within just about any series, i dont mind at all. Panty shots, big boobs, i don't find them distracting in any way. I wonder why that is, considering a lot of people seem to be bothered. In fact i kinda like them and i feel more confortable in watching shows that don't try to cover anything just for the sake of covering. Like when some skirt wearing female bends and the skirt's getting suddenly longer just to cover her butt. I rather feel bothered by THAT.

However, the fanservice hate is bullcrap since a lot of people lately are just using fanservice as a pretext in argumentation that a show is bad. In fact, i don't think it has anything to do with a show being good or bad, no matter how shameless the fanservice is.

Yeah, failures to physics like that bother me way more than it just showing how it would be in real life.

I am bothered by inconsistency as well however I don't think fanservice hate is completely BS since if its supported by other reasons why the series is garbage, then it is a legitimate claim.

Nikkoru:
It's legitimate to criticize an anime for anything they choose to put on the screen. Intelligent criticism should weigh various factors when drawing its perspective,

If fan-service is, as tropes and idioms defines it --

"Gratuitous display of characters in skimpy clothing, or none at all, under the assumption that it will attract or "reward" viewers." A work in which sexual content is not expected, but is thrown in just for the sake of having it. I actually don't mind ecchi anime, since they and the audience know what they're getting into from the beginning it's not really fan-service - if they make money off of it then so be it.

Does fanservice ruin a work? No. As I said, you have to look at the whole work. Does it improve a work? No. It reduces my interest in the story and pulls me out of the experience. I can't take something seriously when it's trying to pander to a demographic rather than progress the plot or develop the characters and setting.

Another point, a bad anime can still be entertaining, particularly when you're in the mood. I enjoyed Dog Days for instance, and it's shit.
