When you are going to watch aika it is supposed to have loads and loads of nonsensical fanservice. The show is fanservice, so there's no way it can be something that takes away from the show.
What? How could have I skipped Aika! Must-go-watch ...

I welcome all fanservice .. no yaoi please! :P

Aika rung a bell with me.  I need to say ditto with Najica.  It was a decent series that was completely destroyed by fanservice.
Nothing.

my issue with fan service is
1. its not needed, I'm watching the anime for the Action, not the panty action.
2. Allot of the anime characters are fairly young, which makes the series a little off putting, I know most of them now days go under the all characters are 18+ banner, but yeah.. From the history of anime + the way the characters are drawn it's still off putting...

I know allot of people do like it though, so I won't make too much of a fuss, it's not just me watching the anime and I still watch it even though it has the fan service.

Just thought Ide give an opinion that was slightly different to the general vibe of how this post has gone

Oh, btw, I made this post because I'm watching Kore wa Zombie Desu ka... If you like panty shots then hurah! you found your anime.

I'm a big fan of fanservice. Just yesterday I asked myself, "why don't they make shows/movies with fansercive like in anime?"

I wrote alot about it before and I see the "hate" from two sides.

1) I watch alot of Ecchi shows and it's an art on itself when done right. As mentioned before, I also see 3 catagories. You can have hardcore fanservice like Ikki Tousen, kanokon, I like those shows, it's fun, great characters and good Ecchi. Next we have some with more story, Girls Bravo, B H Gata Kei, Love Hina,... and as last "serious" with a touch of fanservice (which I consider normal as in point 2).

But a bad show will always be a bad show, no pantyshot can safe Strike Witches.  Lately I notice an increase in nudity, those shows also carry the Ecchi tag while I don't see anything sexy, naughty, erotic, etc. in those shows. Qeens Blade, R-15, Ladies vs Butlers,... are shows I dislike because they offer nothing. Those shows are full of meaningless nudity, there's no value in just trowing boobs at you. Artistic value is zero.

Note: Many people complain about HoTD but I liked the show just because the fanservice, mediocre zombie show + fanservice = me happy.

2) People seeing ghosts. Some are too focust on looking for things that aren't there. If you watch western tv shows and movies you will also see partitial nudity, shower scenes, a girl in bikini, sexy ass shots,... But people don't see it because they aren't looking. Here you have your anime elite, they see sexy girl: complain about moe. A 8 year old girl: complain about loli's. Something erotic or just a girl in towel, bikini, pantyshot: complain about fanservice/Ecchi.

So yes, fanservice hate is nonsene. The majority of shows aint focused on fanservice and they don't show anything different than regular tv shows and movies.
If you hate a show due fanservice then you have watched the wrong show, it aint for you.

Well, I thought SW was plenty enjoyable regardless of the fanservice, but maybe that's just because lolis and guns. Idk.

I don't have an issue with fan-service, unless it comes at a bad time.

Like, imagine, if during the final fight in Akira, Kaori's tits are show as she's absorbed.

Ecchi fanservice is okay when the show calls for it. I just find it funny how much people make a big deal out of seeing cartoon animated breasts and asses.

"yea you know they showed Kirino's bras and panties in the first season, STUPID SHIT HEADS SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT" ... -shrugs-, It was one of the best fanservice modes we've seen. 11 eyes (anime name?) had some of the worst fanservice incorporated into something that's trying to be serious. If you look at High School of the Dead, the ecchi service was excellent. I loved every moment of it not just because of the art, fluid animation but because of the execution and the way they've done it.

Fan service also so dominated the animated HSotD that they didn't have enough time to actually let the story get anywhere.

Personally, same issue I had with Horizon, although they just opted to tell the story by massive exposition dumps instead of just holding out for the following season to do it.

Sometimes fan service adds a lot to a show (thinks fondly of School Days)
I personally don't have an issue with it. Strike Witches made me numb...
However, I can see how it can bug some people such as those who would want to watch anime with others especially or when it is out of place totally unexpected, such as Steins; Gate.

Personally, I didn't like most of the fanservice in HSotD. The show worked better when it was taking the more serious route and focused on the whole zombie apocalypse survival theme (which is what I expected in the first place). IMO, the ecchi became a but too over the top for me and made me facepalm more than it made me excited.

That is one of the few occasions where I found the fanservice completely out of place, and I'm sure I would've liked the show more without it.

11 Eyes' fanservice took my mind off the horrible plot and thus, I enjoyed it more than I probably should have.

Got to love how Usagi Drop is the background image for that video.  ;D

But how many people laughed their ass off at this? I recommend to watch, it's hilarious!

"It objectifies the female characters, I can not identify with the character I only see them as a pair of tits and ass."

Just, wtf dude.  ;D ;D

Or in other words, "I can't care about female characters unless they're figureless, sexless dialogue machines, just like my hero Ayn Rand." Just another one of those "everything must be completely innocent or hardcore pornography, no middle ground is allowed" types. Love how he talks a big game about caring about female characters' personalities, then goes on a slut-shaming rant about Inori's outfit in the latter half of Guilty Crown. While completely ignoring the more normal clothes she wears earlier. Then top it all of with an "anyone who disagrees with me or has different opinions is retarded." Yeah, real objective there.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

Fanservice in general is childish so I can understand it being annoying in many cases. Sometimes it fits the world, but even when it does it's usually because the world design is built to pander to fanservicing. Take "Tehchi: War on Geminar"... the fanservice was annoying as hell to me. It fit the world, yeah, but only because the world was created based on a 14 year old boy's wet dream. "Robots AND titties AND super special magicool man AND 90% of the population is girls who all want the D!"... yeah. No thanks.

Every medium has it, but it's more noticeable in anime for because of the added bouncing and how blantant it gets. For some series people mention fanservice but I don't even notice it, because it's a subtle thing or them overreacting... but in the really fanservicey shows it's fairly ridiculous. Part of that is the categorization issues we have in anime. There are too many categories, but at the same time not enough. Anime encompasses every genre you can think of, and there's definitely a "Beat off material for young boys" genre. Since it's hard to define the exact genre/content of an anime based on a cover image and blurb it's easy to pick something up that isn't the exact genre you're expecting. When that happens it's easy to get annoyed by things like fanservice, so I can understand the bitching. On the other hand I'd rather just realize I'm not the target audience for the title and move on.
