GITS vs HOTD

Funny that you make this comparison, when someone earlier in the thread complained about how out of nowhere there is breast scene in GITS, while HOTD is consistent from day one that the FS is part of the package.

Ever heard about context? I don't really care about FS in HOTD, since it is a terrible show even without FS.

I said earlier in the thread : Taking the FS out of HoTD is not going to make a better show.

The strength and weaknesses of HoTDhave nothing to do with FS, we agree on that the funny thing is that a lot of opposition of people to it is because of the FS even thought it is not the show problem. It suffers more of the problems of hte Zombie genre and some narrative decisions, the fanservice and fighting are one of the things that work well in the show, which is ironic since people point to FS as the culprit.

Yes you can it right or wrong, A way of doing it wrong would be if it is filler taking too much of screen time at the expense of the plot. One example is Korewa Zombie Desuka, where the second season Meta Plot was barely remembered in Episode 11 and then it was so lame that the whole second season was more of an OVA than an actual plot in that universe.

JoonasTo:
Fanservice is a two-edged blade, Ikkitousen or HotD are supposed to be like they are, full of it and so overly done it's fucking hilarious and makes for great laughs.

Then we have the Neon Genesis Evangelion like fanservice that is there just to make for fantasies of the main female cast. It's just about as important as a sex scene in a Van Damme movie.
Do I think they make the movie/series worse? No.
Do I feel uncomfortable/annoyed/leave the room/change the channel/skip forward? Yes.

The question then remains, will the show end up getting more viewers due to having said fanservice than the fanservice alienates? If the answer is yes, they will do it.

As long as the audience for anime is the japanese male ranging from 10-30 years of age who have never seen a woman naked it will remain the way it is now.

And to make a good objective opinion, the second season of Koreha zombie desuka is the worst shit to come out of the tv industry right after walking dead season two.

I hate season two of TWD ... they made Shane into a psycho and killed him because PLOT, spend half of the screen-time about Lorry and her "feelings", and reduced the cast IQ to the level of Gerbils.

I couldn't wait for Lori to die in Season 3 and Karl to be lost in the woods, but I gave up on the franchise itself entirely, not longer interested.

But back on topic, Korewa Zombie Desuka 2 is was bad.

It is great when it is part of the whole concept and well done, that is for sure. Especially if the other elements of the anime are also compelling and the characters are memorable. Having brought Samurai Girls earlier one reason I like it is also because somehow the great hope of Japan Yagu Jiubei spends 95% of her time with the IQ of an adorable Gerbil and somehow transforms into a fearsome warrior with witty lines when kissed.

Making the anime absurd up to 11 can make it fun, if done right.

The uncomfortable "who has the remote to change the channel" moment, I feel your pain and it is not good no matter the media genre. I used to avoid watching TV with my parents when I visited them to avoid those moments.

The shift of focus in Evangelion is even more obvious with the introduction of Mari, for the sole reason of selling miniatures and printed pillows.

I do like her has a character in the third movie because of her banter with Asuka, which beats the laconic nature of Rei and the retardation of Shinji, but her main role in the cast is about appealing to the male audience instincts.

Edit:

I just realized that I like the fanservice bait of Evangelion, with a screen time of a few minutes, more than 3/4 of the main cast. I hate Evangelion, it takes my love for the universe and throw it in the bin with dumb characters.  :-\

Taking the FS out of HotD will not make a better show. You're right because without FS, you wouldn't even have a show.  ::)

Look this whole sex sells thing is not new. You see it in movies, television, novels, comics, games, any medium you can think of. Anything that overly relies on sex to sell is generally rubbish. And we accept such entertainment as rubbish and a kind of guilty pleasure. Some people will dislike such entertainment though and there is nothing wrong with that. It's simply a matter of taste.

The fanservice you see in anime, a medium mostly targeted at Japanese teens, is nothing but porn for the underage.

So if it a medium targeted at Japanese teens then why are WE watching ? What is the median age of the Otaku Demographic, or are we just children that refuse to grow ?
