Is Fanservice hate nonsense?
Saras:
My main problem is that I don't want to be associated with (click to show/hide)The hobby is widely associated with manchildren throughout the world. And fan service a la highschool of the dead isn't helping that.
I'm not a prude, I don't mind it all. I keep coming back to the same examples, but whatever. Take a look at spice and wolf, Horo is basically seen nude every other episode if not every episode for extended periods of time. Hell, both the ghost in the shell movies open with a gynoid being created from it's spinal cord up to Eve in all of her glory. Still, neither makes me feel like the show is insulting me for having a dick, nor does it make me feel like changing the channel. Now that, that's good.
Having said that, I don't mind it too much in shows where half of the intention is to give boners and little else, just how American summer blockbusters are designed to do that with explosions. I mind it, when it seeps into the genres where it shouldn't be and is done so in poor taste. Think Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal. Would you really look back at those four episodes in the same manner as you do now, if it was done the same fashion as Ikkitousen?
Is it an insecurity issue? Probably. Doesn't stop me from making me despise it. The prevalence of the ass/panty/tit cam throghout the vast majority of this form of media, basically solidifies my position as a "closet otaku".

I can't argue with this point ... I don't mind the FS if I am being entertained in the process, but being tagged as a weirdo is not really a price I am willing to pay.
As for being entertained it depends on what you like subjectively and what interests you in general, something which depends on what are your personal interests since as someone who likes guns and shooting I found Upotte awesome and didn't mind the FS most of the time, but without that interest in the subject of guns I understand why other people are not interested in the series and only see the FS. GuP follows gives me the same enjoyment for being about tanks, but maybe works better because the premise is much bigger than "girls are guns", and has better characters.
Now please excuse me I need to clean my closet and hide my DVDs. ::)
BronBron06:
Why the hate, people should like be grateful for the fan-service cause it's keeping the industry alive
APPRECIATE.... DONT HATE ;D
We wont get an abundance of entertainment anime / manga products without this
Volusus:
Personally I don't mind fanservice, and will still watch a decent animu with fanservice present. Everyone watches anime for different reasons, and if one of those reasons is fanservice then so be it. However, I won't peruse animes and look for fanservice specifically, just as I won't really look for animes with a specific art or animation style. I'm more partial to stuff like fanservice when it's used in comedic animes, otherwise I prefer a more mature approach to sexuality/nudity etc.
Fool010:
I see fanservice to be roughly comparable to alcohol consumption, it's a matter of context and quantity.
I don't mind fanservice as long as it makes sense storywise.
