Given their plan to shorten the release cycle I doubt 9 will be much different than 8. Especially if they double down on Metro (or Modern, whatever.)

Windows 95 - Okay
Windows 98 - Awesome
Windows ME - Garbage
Windows XP - Great
Windows Vista - ...
Windows 7 - SUPERB!
Windows 8 - ... Okay?
Windows 9 - ???

I'm still on 7. Waiting on 9 and to see if it's worth the upgrade. They release a hit, then a miss, then another hit, and a miss afterwards.

I actually had more fun with w2k though I worked more on XP.

I think people have some confirmation bias when they judge Windows versions. Windows 95 was so far ahead of the previous Windows iteration that you'd be hard pressed to argue any other version has defined the Windows desktop as much as 95 did. 98 was definitely better, but it was a minor step in relation to 95.

And they tend to drop NT and 2000, even though they both led to major innovations when they merged the business and home OSes with XP.
