Ugh. This is by far the most frustrating series, ever. It's not the awful character animation that really bugs me, it's their mouths. It's... just, really bad. And to make things even worse, it's a near perfect adaptation despite the animation. Why couldn't they have gone with a typical animation style? Sure, it would have lost some of its punch without this wacky style, but it would have been a lot more pleasing to the eye... and more enjoyable as well *sigh*

Because doing it otherwise would ruin the mood the show is trying to go for. You're supposed to feel that something is just not right and according to both the mangaka and the director, only this style lends itself perfectly for that. And I cannot help but agree.

Yes, it's a very awkward style that isn't overly visually pleasing (though I still think it's not as ugly as people claim it is) and seems to suffer from animation issues (which are claimed to be intentional), but episode 2 had me at the edge of my seat, and I could really feel Kasuga drift into despair and hopelessness after doing what he did, and even more so when Nakamura told him she knew. I could really feel the tense atmosphere building up, and the creepy ED is starting to grow on me, so I'd say job well done.

Don't get me wrong, the vibe of the series is perfect. It's dark, edgy and very intense. But I can't say that's solely due to the animation style. I feel that most of it is due to the amazing BGM and the other visuals. With that said, I'd rather see a different animation style. Or at the least, make it better. Seriously. The faces are awful. Half the time their mouths don't even move when speaking. When they do move, it looks like a face contortionist. It makes me cringe, and not in a good way.

And the ED is indeed creepy (and awesome). I like it.

Only part-way through Episode 2: I find myself agreeing with:
@Lord Of Fire: I don't mind the "style" at all! It successfully conveys the "sense of dread" nicely! It's rotoscope, get used to it!
What I DO mind is the way their hair twitches... eew!

And @dbml: Yeah, their mouths are freaky...

The OP is AWEFUL! The (translated) lyrics SUCK!
Really, Ghod! What were they thinking?

The ED is GOOD! I'm liking it...

(I'm happy to explain why the OP is so bad, but it involves a detailed discussion of S&M and may not be "suitable" for all BBT readers...)

Oh Heck! I almost forgot why I posted in the first place:
(click to show/hide)
I don't mind the "laws of physics" taking a beating in anime, but really? Hyper-realism and BAD physics do not mix!

For the people complaining about Sawa Nakamura's face?
The anime has it SPOT ON PERFECT!

One of the few things I didn't like about the manga (which I'm reading one chapter at a time as the anime progresses) is that Sawa is TOO "generic". In the anime her facial expressions are GOLDEN!

Freeze it at Ep.02 10:21? THAT is what I'm talking about! It's just amazing! Genius! IMHO of course...

Plenty of other examples, just look for yourself!

Edit: The MC Male (Takao Kasuga) suffers from the same "generic manga" look, but in the anime? He's wonderfully unique... Just MHO of course...

^Not that 'joke' again. It's getting very, very old by now, along with all the whining about the show's style that has been going on for about a week now. Heck, it's not even funny and serves no purpose. ::)

No matter how many times people complain, this is what the show is going to look like, with all its flawed animation and whatever not. If you can't overlook that despite the execution working quite well, then go watch something else, unless you're secretly watching this show anyway, because you're afraid to admit that you like it.

Friend recommended this, gonna check it out. I don't know what's up with you guys, it looks fine to me. A refreshing break from modern shows that all look the same :P

Did laugh at that picture though, HEH

I suppose I'd have to agree. It is quite a bit more refreshing compared to the usual fare.

Their movement can be a bit jarring but I find their facial features to be more expressive than the standard fare too.

BUT DEAR LORD DRAW MORE FRAMES. THIS IS KILLING ME.

So basically it's completely opposite of this?
Naah, that one is just made circular motion. Might be youtube fucking it up though.

It's like playing something with 5fps.

Yes, I know it was a joke.

Because we can!

Bros this anime is awesome, the musical direction and character style is pretty kewl. Good to see some serious stuff that isn't plagued by needless nipple-flashing and absurd wackiness. Currently watching episode 3, definitely going to see this one though.

Episode 04 is a juggernaut!
I'm reading the manga after each episode, and it follows the manga very closely!

The characters in the manga "look generic". I don't know if that's on purpose or not, time will tell.

But the look and expressions in the anime are FANTASTIC! The voice acting is simply perfect!

Don't like "the look" of the anime? You're NOT SUPPOSED TO!

ffs, S&M is NOT about "looks" OK?
Innocent bunnies who just don't know what they're looking at...

I'm liking the anime (and manga) a LOT! These characters have DEEP problems! I love it!

Edit: I took one too many grumpy pills before posting! This could have been worded better.
Essentially: Nakamura and Kasuga are in an "S&M Relationship". A very serious one! Only Kasuga hasn't figured that out yet, and it looks like Saeki will get dragged into it too. Woo-Hoo!

I've been reading the manga, up to volume 8 so far. It's a nice read.

Also I read the director for the animu was the same guy that directed Detroit Metal City. That show was fantastique.

He's a nervous guy, clearly. And wouldn't you be sweating your ass off in the same situation?

Anyways, episode 4 was pretty damn awesome. I saw what looked like a noticeable increase in the quality of animation. A lot cleaner and crisper, which is nice. The story is really starting to kick in too. Almost time for the shit to hit the fan!

and the guy is weak as fuck!
I mean 1 girl took off all his clothes. . . and dressed him against his will. . .how weak do you have to be for that to happen?
I've had 2 friends try to pull down my pants and couldn't make it happen
