Starter Torrents & Seeding While Downloading
« on: April 13, 2013, 04:20:38 PM »
Greetings to my new community! I found this blessed place last night and I am impressed! I am no stranger to these type of forums but I have a conundrum, what is the deal with getting your ratio up?

Do torrents SEED while they are downloading? Aka upload some as they download to set your ratio up a bit? I am from another private group that does that. Or does it upload when it's done?

Also do you have any suggestions for starter torrents to boost the ratio? I don't want my account to get hammered. I know about [F], but they don't appear to help.

I am using utorrent 3.3

Yes, torrents do seed when you are downloading, assuming you can connect to another leecher. Don't count on it though.

[F] torrents are freeleech. If you download anything with an [F], it will not count to your downloaded ratio. Anything seeded on it will still count though.

If you want to gain ratio quickly, simply sort the torrent list by leechers.  Voila!  Your busiest data "markets".

Honestly, though, the only truly reliable method is to seed a relatively large number of torrents, 24/7/365.25.  For example, I'm currently seeding 194 BakaBT torrents, of which 15-20 tend to be active at any given time.  This easily uses up as much of my upload pipe as I care to give to uTorrent, and I have a decent ratio.  Note, however, that I also do not choose torrents for popularity/"seedability"/Freeleech status, so YMMV; if you care to bother with it, you'll probably do far better than I do.
