What's your worst SPOILER caught moment?
« on: April 18, 2013, 01:58:27 AM »
Mine is when someone reference to another anime on a specific anime topic on Anime Discussions section. The user who wrote the spoiler didn't do anything wrong. He did use a spoiler on that post. But since it's on a specific anime thread I assumed the spoiler is about that specific anime. I've watched the anime so I've decided to open the spoiler. Instead of that anime, he talk about the ending of another anime that I plan to watch it  >:( >:( >:(

Maybe bakabt should make a specific rule about how to use a spoiler on specific anime thread.

Dunno. Maybe try forgetting it or stop reading midway?

Is it just me, because I usually get spoiled on everything before I watch/read/experience it and I honestly don't care.

Like all endings to movies are always told to me before I watch them, and I'm always like "whatever, I will still watch it".

Nope. I am one of those people immune >90% of all spoilers.
Though it's likely because reading something doesn't do much at all in my mind.

Hmm... personally I see spoiler tag as a "do not touch" button that compels you to touch it. Instead I prefer to mention things with so little context, that only those who already watched it, would get it.

I don't read the vast majority of threads in the Anime Discusions subforum so I rarely run into this problem.  And my anime watching for the last year has slowed down to a crawl, so if I did stumble across such a spoiler, I probably would forget it by the time I got around to watching that particular show (if it was even on my list).

It helps if I don't have any idea what someone is talking about; I'm much more likely to forget a spoiler if I don't know the characters or the situations.  As a general rule, I try not to read a lot about a particular show before I watch it.  I read just enough to get a feel about whether it would interest me or not, and then I stop.  After watching a show, I'll go back and read up on it to see what I missed.

I think that Haruhi Suzimiya and probably School Days were ones where I stumbled onto spoilers before I actually saw the shows.  But I forgot them before I watched, so it wasn't a big deal.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

I'm one of those people that spoiler deals a great damage. In the end I ended up postponed it for half year before I watched it the anime.

I agree that it's a bitch when people do it to you, and it can be easily solved by this construct, if they care:

Yeah, it's to empathise on my point earlier: another way to spoil without spoiling is to make so generic and vague comments, that it will not reveal anything to those that haven't seen anything. Let's be honest, my "spoiler" can be used for pretty much any generic shounen out there.

Don't care about spoilers. They don't affect me. I view at stories as the journeys, not the destinations.

Don't care about spoilers. They don't affect me. I view at stories as the journeys, not the destinations.
As far as I know there are two ways how two write a story. One where you write from the start of the story and go with the flow to the end. And the other is where you create an awesome unexpected ending and write a story with that ending in mind.

Most of manga (though not always) is probably made with the first method since it's a rensai based. A spoiler from this type of story is probably wouldn't matter much since the story usually are poorly constructed especially for manga. While reading a spoiler from the latter type--an example of this is The Sixth Sense would deal a great damage even to you. You may not care about it, and probably don't even realize that it deals a great damage to you but they do.

I always consider Writer is like a conductor however instead of music, they conduct your feeling during the phase of the story. In order for a symphony to be played perfectly a certain condition needs to be made. This condition is various in this case lets just say a good musician with a good instrument. No matter how good a conductor is he/she can't lead an orchestra and performs a good symphony.

A writer also need a condition to conducts a symphony in your heart. When a writer constructs a story most of the time they have an image of you as a reader how you would perceives the story in their mind. In order to enjoy the story to the utmost, you have to be in the condition where the writer imagined you would be. Like conducting the condition is various, and sometime it's not easy to achieved such as regional joke which need a good knowledge of a certain cultural knowledges. Luckily the most important condition are easy to achieved. You don't even have to do anything you just need not to know anything about the story or in case of a sequel you just need to have watched the prequel, etc.

This condition is important and it needs to be met. If not met the symphony is going to be out of tune.

Anyway that's the reason why I hate spoilers.

What about shows for which the OP or ED basically summarizes the plot?

I skip those. It depends on the anime though. Sometime they have a unique preview with a joke, I usually watch those. Anyway most of them that has a unique preview are manga based like hayate no gotoku. So the spoiler don't do lots of damage. But if it's an anime like Eureka, Steins; Gate, Last Exile, etc I'd skip it whether they have a unique preview or not.

My worst spoiler moments usually aren't from this site. I have learned that once a show starts airing, I have have to very carefully skim the related thread because people tend not to use the spoiler tag. That rule doesn't seem to be enforced.

I had to quite listening to anime podcasts though. Those guys are always giving out spoilers. I wish I knew of some that were spoiler free.

As a rule i hate having things spoiled for me.I normally dont have to worry about them too much, because i dont go places where i will
read anything.Anime wise i only go here and MAL and i rarely read a full thread involving shows. My biggest spoiler is a friend of mine.
He's gotten better over the years but sometimes he will start with "You should watch X show because...." and 10 minutes later i know
everything that happens in the series.I laugh and tell him "thanks now i dont have to watch it" and go on.If its something i think i will
really like i'll just cut him off.

Looking back i cant even think of the last thing in an anime that was spoiled for me on a show i was watching.

I actually prefer having things spoiled for me, I hate when I don't know what's going to happen and I hate suspense.
