So I woke up this morning to find my laptop slightly damp and smelling of burnt plastic. Needless to say, it wouldn't turn on. I have no idea wtf happened. I was out drinking last night, and don't recall going near my laptop. I got home at like 3am, so there was no reason to, let alone bring any liquid near it.
Ive dismantled it as best I can, which isn't very much, and can't find the source of the burning smell. I have no idea what to do now other than leave it to dry off for a couple of days and pray.
Take it to someone who can take a look at it. Did you back up your stuff? Or at least did you put your stuff on your externals?
Most of my games, books, videos, and music are on my external, which seems to be fine, so that's something. But all my photos (around 35gb), including several hundred from my recent holiday which I haven't uploaded anywhere yet, and all my work etc plus various other important documents and miscellaneous files were all in my documents folder, not backed up anywhere.

Although even if the laptop is dead, the hard drive might still be salvageable. I got it out, and it was pretty wet, but I might be lucky. Although I wouldn't count on it, the way things have been going lately
