Are we on the list?
http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/07/28/japanese-government-to-start-anti-animemanga-piracy-operation-next-month
Quote
On August 1, the government will start simultaneously sending requests to delete illegal anime and manga contents to the operators of the 580 foreign pirate sites which they have found. In addition, the operation will launch a new site to guide the fans to a legitimate site offering some 250 titles including
the latest ones at a cost of several hundred yen.
Whoa, that came out of no where. I wonder if they can even touch Nyaa. I bet all the fans will get pretty pissed and have another superb counter-measurements for all of this like how they did several years ago. Anyone remember the big incident with Funnymation and HorribleSubs and how HorribleSubs came back a month or two later to become 'untouchable' sort of site? Or how groups broke apart and reformed into different ones with better hosting sites and seed boxes (or something like that ..)?

Anyways. How much money will the Japanese government have to put down in order to execute these operations is beyond me. China doesn't give a shit about the outside world anyways.

I believe hosting torrents or files ripped from open TV sources is not illegal, if the channels in Japan were coded and needed to be decoded I would understand if it was illegal, but isn't. It's like you can legally possess recorded programs of national geographic.

Majority of stuff on websites lie nyaa is the ongoing stuff. It's not even seeded long.
Bakabt is hosted outside of usa/japan and is pretty much safe in that regard.

I'm not sure what measures HS took to be untouchable but they too are not really breaking the law by hosting rips. Especially when you have free access to it at the source.

Those measures are a joke, and their offer is more of a joke.
I have more anime on DVDs than they offer.

New awesome thread had been created, don't miss the chance to participate!

Eh, there's a reason I didn't end up becoming a physicist.  I like reading about physics, and I occasionally like thinking about physics, but I don't enjoy doing the work.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Has anyone seen the movie Donnie Darko?

Since a few things about physics were posted here I just wanted to recommend it.I watched it tonight and I loved it.(Although I am not a big physics fan)
It's really hard to know what's going on since the movie is based on a Philosophy of Time Travel theory which wasn't explained during the movie(parts of it were explained on the director's cut)but if you want a total mindfuck and an interesting movie watch it.

If you had 100,000 USD in your savings account, you get taxed on that if I'm correct ... no?

Yes, unless you have something like we do in Canada called a Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA cause holy shit we're good at naming things).

We're just talking about interest tax, right?
Yeah, get a TFSA or invest in capital gains or something which is taxed less.

In Australia, you only get taxed on interest made on the money in the account, not the money itself.

.............. so what if you had 10,000,000 yen in a Japanese savings account .. would you get taxed on that?

And what if you actually had that amount in USD but in a checking account?

I don't quite understand why you would get taxed just by putting said money into a bank.
They borrow your money for loaning or to invest in stuff to make a profit from doing so.

Yeah, the bank uses your money when you put it in your account anyways. It just doesn't make the slightest sense to get taxed on something you were, more than likely, taxed on. What the fuck ... everything is "tax tax tax" in this shit hole country.

The US, right? It feels like the taxation is pretty unbalanced there.

Have you seen the "Canadian Tax Law" in print form? That book is thick.
