Slightly related... who exactly decided that sun damaged skin was attractive? Back in the Roman empire, and even farther back, paleness was considered attractive (because it showed that you didn't have to toil and were probably rich). But now many people bend over backwards to ~~put themselves at risk of skin cancer~~ get a tan. I, personally, am not crazy for tans. A little, sure, but not toasted. Opinions?

Personally I'll never be able to tan, but some pigmentation does look nicer compared to how pale I am.

So, today went like this. I woke up before 9am. Mowed from 11-3 in the blazing sun. Not a cloud in sight. While mowing, I got glass embedded in my leg, got a few more cuts. Got a sunburn, and my left index finger is hurting bad. I'm more sure now than ever that it is, indeed, a full-blown fracture.

Well, you say that... I have my doubts some of the time. Besides, Japan's hardly any worse for that kind of stuff than the rest of the world, really - though you wouldn't think so reading that site.

Then you've definitely been reading too much Sankaku Complex. It's not true any more often than other countries really. That kind of thing probably happens more in the US than in Japan, being so much bigger - there just isn't a site like Sankaku to immediately jump on it whenever it happens.
