Unions got shit to do with it, the legislation does. If you don't pay for overtime, as designated in the contract, in a decently civilised country, say Germany, Finland, US or whatever and the officials get you for that, you're up for court and fines. If you're in a country where contract breaches don't mean jack, then that's a different story.

Here in the US most Salary positions don't have to pay overtime unless specified, but that does not rule or other bonuses they can give if you go out of your way to help out.

I'm not talking about the work legislations I'm talking about contract legislation, saras. Sure, union countries have a huge work legislation but a non-union country like the US will still fuck a company ten times over if your contract has overtime pay and you're not paid. Western countries don't take that well to contract breaches. 

It's your job to make sure that if you work overtime, it's in your contract.
