Decided to try Windows 8...  I was confused... I'm now putting on Win 7

I don't suggest using Windows 8 for a few more months just until they work out all of the technical issues it currently has.

First year of university starts next week. It's a little bit nerve racking. :/

Windows 8.1 is coming out soon. It will be a free upgrade for Windows 8 users.

That keyword right there. Eventually when DX12 comes out in a few years or so. Maybe jumping right to Win9 instead. You however can screw around with... as you call it "bleeding edge OS" full of shit that needs to be patched.

Wrong. You need Win 8.1 for the latest DirectX i.e. 11.2

As far as I know Nvidia cards do not fully support 11.2, thus making it utterly useless. Also no games are 11.2 exclusive, so my conclusion is that this is more of a patch and console geared DX, rather than a new version (which would be designated with a new number)

I used Win7 on my laptop switched to Ubuntu....

I tried Win7 on my main comp - switched back to WinXP......

Will not even try Win8 at home

I guess not being a gamer and not needing to watch everything in super high (mostly unnecessarily high) quality makes my life much more easy as I can just stay with what works and what I am used to work with :)
