Just got my mail and saw a shitty scratch off game in there with the junk mail. I scratched it off and all 3 of them say $25,000...

I've gone over it pretty thoroughly and it seems kinda legit. I'll try cashing it in tomorrow and let you guys know if I won. If I do win, I'm tempted to buy a hayabusa motorcycle... but I know the best course of action would be to put it in a savings account and save it for a rainy day.

Hello again. Weren't you banned? :-\
No I wasn't, I just stopped posting myself. I was banned only for a week when I said something about Pakistan etc. I did come here a few times to take a look around or reply to month old pm's but that's about it. I was here when this new General Chit Chat Thread was created.
I think I should be here for sometime now, back after almost one year.

@Mistgun: Why don't you do that to yourself?

Is it bad that it's only the second week of university and I'm already skipping lectures? I just find it kind of pointless having a teacher repeat the exact same thing I read about the day before.

If they repeat the same thing, then it is important and the probability of it showing up on a test is high.

Also, don't skip classes. Attending classes earns you credit + knowledge.

Actually, in countries like the UK, it doesn't earn you any credit whatsoever. Though I agree wholeheartedly with the knowledge part - skipping lectures now, even if you think you know it, is just going to result in lots more work come exam time when you realise you've forgotten it all again. Trust me, I know :-\

Which reminds me, it's going to be tough getting used to uni in Japan. I think anything less than something like 80% attendance is an automatic fail :( I don't think I've managed 80% attendance in years :P

It's cool. Just go anyways and spend the entire lecture working on something else. It'll look like you're taking notes or reading but you could just be doing stuff for a completely different class.

Also, don't skip classes. Attending classes earns you credit + knowledge.

Wut. Since when?

I mean if you go to a university with like 100+ people in the class it's impossible. About the only thing they can do is just give quizzes so the people that showed up get rewarded while the ones that skipped are kinda fucked. That's a good reason though to do as above mentioned.

I think many professors have some really interesting stories and such though so it's at least somewhat engaging, depending on the professor and the subject.

If you don''t' have t o go to classes, don''t. They're for people who can't read a book.

You can buy plenty of hayabusas and still save with that amount.  ;D

harr....
Spent 4hrs in Sauna today....
Took a shower in the middle of work day, and felt refreshed xD
lol.... Rather, I felt really clean....
Then got to go to a hygiene meet, about how a bunch of Finnish hygienic products for hospitals/nursery homes went under one trademark and how you should take care of hand hygienic's before and after treating a patient. ...and a bunch of other this type of stuff... Gosh, had to sit down for 01:30 hrs... after 1st running around with too small shoes for 4hrs, most of the time spent in sauna in full clothing. Bathing elders sounds fun, eh?

My uni has a system where there are little scanners by the entrances to all the lecture theatres and classrooms, and we have to scan our ID cards at the start of each lecture to register our attendance. It works quite well, even in big lectures (300ish students I think was the largest I've had).

It's not actually used for much, though. The only reason it's there is because the government now legally requires them to keep track of international students' attendance so they have an excuse to deport them if they don't go to lectures.

Our system is simple, in most courses they don't care much about attendance, it's up to you. If you miss out on Anatomy and Histology it's your fault, since it'll be hard to get some of the detailed information from other sources (especially since not all sources are the same). As for physiology, since our lecturer talks in a speed of 1word/2-3 seconds it's essentially a lost cause, although they will hand around an attendance sheet if the attendents drop under 10%. Most other lectures you can skip at your own leisure, but woe you if you miss a seminar or practical (taking my own blood today was kinda fun, but apparently I'm lacking a few thrombo- and erythrocytes, although the htc is fine Oo, next week we get to work on frogs^^)

Show up to class, get learned.

But seriously, if you attend more than 60% of the lectures in first year, you're probably the majority.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

That's second week. I think attendence dropped to less than 20% in the bad lectures, less than 50% in the good ones and is still aorund 80% in anatomy/histology. I should know, I was once the only person sitting in a physics lecture, but hey the lecturer invited me for lunch at a nearby restaurant to talk over the topic  8) It turned out that that crappy looking restaurant offered great food for cheap and actually looked nice from the inside.

I really like listening to this guys lectures: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/physics/8-01-physics-i-classical-mechanics-fall-1999/video-lectures/

All except the second quantum field lecture is considered a pre-requisite for studying medicine at my university, and we did cover it in school (well teh relativity theory not in as much detail, but except for that). We even did most of the applicable experiments with good old GDR equipment^^

First time using dark soy sauce. Ingredients will be steamed cut potatoes (unpeeled), fresh cut onions, fresh cut bella mushrooms, crap meat. Don't think I have anything else to add, probably light pepper for seasoning. It will accumulate to about 4-6 servings. I'm thinking two tea-spoons of dark soy sauce? How strong is the taste? How thick is it? I know I only put like no more than two tea-spoons of soy sauce and a max of three in large servings.

Well people, give me your knowledge.

The best kind of soy sauce is Tamari. It's great in rice, tofu, veggies, which pasta and pesto, and just generally in anything that tastes fresh but not sweet. Why the heck would you be wasting such delicious sauce on some crap meat?

This will turn good. Haven't checked if we had breast chicken so I'm opting out for crap meat. Going to make crap rangoon as well and miso soup. Never tried to put soy sauce with miso soup. Not sure if that's a good idea. Ah ... I don't have seaweed and green onions!
