So, today I got to go on a tour of Maclaren's head office. It is
ridiculously clean - scarily so. The bays where they build their F1 cars are completely white, and absolutely spotless - not a speck of dust, and no tools, or bits of paper, or anything to be seen lying around anywhere. The building itself is absolutely stunning, too. I was very impressed. They were fussy about appearances to the point that there was a dress code all visitors had to follow to be allowed into the compound, lest it all be ruined by someone scruffy (like me).
Sadly photography was strictly forbidden, except for one F1 car they'd set out on its own for that purpose. But the lighting there was terrible for photos, so this is the best picture I managed to get:
I also took a couple of shots of two other cars nearby when nobody was looking. This is the car Bruce Maclaren made his racing debut in (and got his first win in), in 1954:
And this is a car from... 1968, I think it was. I can't remember who drove it, or what its significance is though.
They had a load of other cars from various years, and some road cars, and other racing cars. It was really interesting. They also had and two trophy cabinets literally half the length of the building stuffed full of all kinds of trophies from all sorts of places. Some of them looked amazing, some were just silly. I really wish I'd been able to take photos of it all
