My mom called me this morning and said she thinks she broke her leg last night so I went over and took a look at it. It was kinda bruised and scraped a bit but it wasn't a displaced fracture. I didn't wanna mess with it though if it was actually fractured so I called a friend and drove her in and got some x-rays on her knee and took a look at it. No fractures, so I did some tests (ligament stuff), all negative. It was just a bad contusion. Poor mom~

It'll be sore for a few days but it'll heal up just fine.

Since we were like 2 miles away from that Best Buy that has the two keyboards I needed to try out switches on I went ahead and stopped there and went in and tried them out while we were up there in the area.

She asked what I was doing... I explained that I was looking at keyboards and that I didn't want one from there and how I was just testing the mechanical switches to see if I liked how the various different ones felt... She just looked right at me, called me a nerd, and told me I need to hang out with her more... >_<

lol gotta love her.
When people tell me that, I go "What, you jealous?" or I say "Proud to be one!".

Oh I hate it... I know a lot of people nowadays wear their little nerd badges with pride, but not me. Back when I was school it wasn't a "cool" thing to be a nerd and I was one of the cool popular kids so I know exactly how other people talk about the people who think they're cool being nerds. It's not like 30 years ago where kids would get shoved in a locker but it's definitely not something you'd want to openly admit to be honest.

None of my friends even know I play video games... :P

My mom's cool though, she's a little ball of energy. I don't know how someone can have so much energy, it's like she injects energizer bunnies directly into her bloodstream or something LOL. She's still partying all the time... hell, she's a stripper. She's 38 but still looks like she's in her late 20's. We can pass as twins, we actually look so much alike that people get us confused all the time... lol

She's fun to go out with too, but oh man... I would not want to be someone hitting on her. She'll just straight up say something like "You're ugly and annoying. Go away." Everyone loves her, but man she can be brutal... lol, I love it. I wish I could be that brutal. I'm always super nice even if I'm completely uninterested and being annoyed.

Hmm... my mom realizes that me being a nerd is a resource. (Wait, nerd? Nah, I just happen to know electronics, really). I am an unofficial Admin in her household too.

Also isn't nerd supposed to mean that you are only knowledgeable/interested in one narrow field of expertise? I am disqualified then, since I have several major interests, I guess. Then again, meaning of "nerd" is kind of loose.

For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

I feel like I opened few of Tiff's hidden doors ... or something.

But hey Tiff, back in high school, I thought I was in the "cool gang boys" or whatever and we had our own little sections where a bunch of us would meet up in large groups and chill by the wall. I was the quiet one. My last two years I had full cardio/weights and I took the hardest stuff in summer school so they were a breeze. Senior year was awesome. But I was not a computer person, what so ever. I was into games and I had ... barely, ... anyone, to speak to about games. So yea.

Right now, my family know about me from games to computers to anime and they say "Did you just leave your cave?". I go "Damn, THE SUN!! OH GAWD WHERE ARE THY ANIMU!" or something. At work, most people know about me and the last person that spoke to me in a funny way said "Shut up, your a geek and you like computers." I go "And? ...."

I think I'm more into being "connected to the internet" ever since I got my Nexus 4. It still feels not there ... yet. Maybe something better than computers and cell phones will emerge ..

Come to think of it .. I get free passes to go to the zoo with my family from one of my jobs. I should take advantage of that next month.

Not just a single field, however, excessive and borderline obsessive knowledge in something.

So it just means any expert in anything ever.

And I share the sentiment, I am the over technical support / admin / consultant concerning technical knowledge at my fathers or my sisters household.

Right now, my family know about me from games to computers to anime and they say "Did you just leave your cave?". I go "Damn, THE SUN!! OH GAWD WHERE ARE THY ANIMU!" or something.

And I'd either want to punch you in real life or roll my eyes ironically and get away from the crazy guy.

Nah, it just carries bad connotations. Nerd is fairly synonymous with loser. It's like... a virgin, not cool, bad with the opposite sex (and people in general), and is obsessed with nerdy things (video games, star trek, card games, etc). Someone that just likes some nerdy things but isn't obsessed with them isn't a nerd. If you added something more specific like "computer nerd" then not only would all previous mentioned things still apply, but people also think of you like their personal IT tech.

In my experience it's usually the casual gamers that like to call themselves nerds but they so don't get it. Nobody that calls themselves a nerd gets it.

I don't go calling myself nerd, but I certainly don't hide my interests. They are wide ranged enough to usually find intersections with most people, although quite a few raise an eyebrow at "games and anime", although at the same time there are people that then ask wether I've seen a specific series. My family sure as hell isn't very accepting of my hobbies, but there's nothing they or I can change about that. Although they do use me as a resource whenever something comes up, since I'm cheaper and usually faster than those IT companies, so I can fix simple problems in the clinic infrastructure.

I'm a nerd, and I hide most of interests because I hide most of myself from most people. If someone says "are you a nerd" or "do you like x" with x being something I like and his nerdy, I won't lie. But the fact that even the people that KNOW I'm nerdy are surprised when I say things like "I played CAL-O" or "I used to build creation for x in GW1", they act surprised.

So apparently I don't look nerdy, just like a normal overweight white kid.

Who is a stoner, because everyone thinks that...

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

I had you pegged as a skinny gay Asian man for the longest time. Actually, I still thought you were skinny and Asian until that post, and I think you said you weren't gay like a week or two ago.

lol, I'm so bad with this stuff.

Oh... I never check those threads because I always end up going through them laughing hysterically at how ugly/nerdy people look and then I can't get the pictures out of my head when I see the people post and I start acting differently and like subconsciously judging them and crap, and then I feel bad.

...it's vicious.

Nah, it just carries bad connotations. Nerd is fairly synonymous with loser.

Is that really still the case though? I mean in the last 15 years things that were "nerdy" shifted towards normality. I think the jock culture is being phased out, just us old generation remember how it was back then.

Well, if you peg innocent white stoner kids as skinny gay Asian men anyway, I don't see why you can't enjoy some hysterical laughter...

too old!... I haven't heard that in forever...

wow... the chit chat thread actually had calc as a topic.... I hate calculus... mothafucking reduction formulas and infinite series
I actually decided to learn calculus by choice. Like it wasn't part of my program whatsoever but I went to the administration and convinced the guy responsible for the courses we make that I absolutely want to learn calculus and that it's gonna be super useful and all.
fine... maybe all of calculus ain't bad, but some parts of it are just too long and weird...
