I'm in university (also called medschool in the US) and aiming to be a doctor (i might've been lightly influence by both my parents, as they are both medical doctors). We have to isolate the different parts of every region, and it's 20 ventral and 20 dorsal regions per body. My class has 3 bodies and everyone gets two regions (one ventral and one dorsal) and we share with another class of 30. I'm taking this class because it's required to pass the Physikum (essentially the pre-clinical phase) and it's interesting. We need to isolate them because once we start doing actual surgeries, we need to know what we can cut and what not. We need to know where each part runs, so that we can identify it under any circumstance. That's the official story anyway.
As for the body, it's an adult body of a 60 year old women that died from a heart attack (we assume that since there are not signs of any other damage). We don't really keep the body, we get 3-4 hours per week to work on our regions, and after they are prepared they'll be used for exams and normal classes (seminars) for the next semester.
