That's not being pragmatic. Ethical pragmatism states that ethics are dictated by societies and that societies simply learn with time what is good and what is bad. The comportment you described doesn't conform to the standards of ethics generally accepted by society and hence is not pragmatic.

I think the word you are looking for is "calculating".

In any case, my definition of pragmatism in general (not necessarily pragmatic ethics) is the idea that there is no objective reality but rather what's truth is whatever works in practice.

Not my definition, but it's from the dictionary site I always use.
I think it just means the logical way of dealing with problems, but it permits other factors within reason.

Just think of "I have this theory that..." vs "the theory of evolution/gravity/etc".

Let's say that some kind of magical alien technology could take of picture of each ouf the particles your body is made of today. Let's say they wait while the particles your body is made of until virtually none exist and during that time, you age, your change your mind on many things, you learn, you forget, your situation changes, your values changes, etc. Then in 20 years the aliens magically teleport all your particles back from wherever they are in the world to the exact same spot on Earth as they are now to clone an exact copy of you today.

Burk, I found out the difference here, your link starts with "Pragmatism is a philosophical movement..."

Basically it's just like communism is a political movement which etymologically derives from "community", but has a very different meaning.

So today we both learned a new meaning of the same word. At times like these, i love this community.
