All my computers are filled with gazillion different size screws for hard drives, optical drives, diskette drives, cooling elements, even the goddamn power sources and cases themselves. Always found some that fit a drive missing it's own.

Must be quite troublesome.

I'm getting a bunch of mixed information on what kind of screws I need. It's between these, I think?:
M3x5 - source
M2x3 - source
"#6 -32 about 5mm long" <-whatever the holy fuck that means - source

I am so not an engineer...

Your drives all use the same size screws?
Wow, I quess US is better in some ways afterall. All my computers are filled with gazillion different size screws for hard drives, optical drives, diskette drives, cooling elements, even the goddamn power sources and cases themselves. Always found some that fit a drive missing it's own.
I do also have a small box with all the extra ones I don't use currently though, that helps a lot since most come with extra screw or two.

You misunderstood. 3.5" HDD's all use the same size screws, yes. The other stuff generally doesn't use that type of screw though.

me I don't put any screw because I'm lazy and also because I like to be able to quickly take out my HDD if I want to.
Don't just assume that you are right. Verify with the best tools available and if you are wrong, change your mind and you will become right.

I'm too lazy to look through all of that shit. Just take a pic of the screw your HD uses.

Actually, I think my HDDs only use the rails that came with my case.

Yeah, let me just take a picture of these non-existent screws I have...  ::)

Here's a picture of the "desktop kit" you can get for the Samsung 840 EVO:

The screws there should be the same.

Holy penis dick. Fuck proprietary screws.

Going by the pic you provided, the screws seem to be philips?.. no idea why you can't just attach as is with that configuration unless your motherboard only takes a certain type? I've never heard of anything like this but...

Can't you just hook it up to your MB and suspend it in the air or something?

Ah, those are the same ones that diskette drivers used years ago.

M3x5 means 3 mm diameter and 5 mm length.
M2x3 means 2 mm diameter and 3 mm length

The ones you're looking for are DIN7985. Just check which size you need.

BTW. If they're posidrive, philips, torx, etc. doesn't matter. It has no effect on the screw itself. Just make sure you're got something matching to tighten it.

Because we can!

I don't understand my hardware store. It says M3x5 but there's no way this is 5mm: lowes

That looks more like 20mm...

@megido - that seems to indicate M3x5-ish... I mean 1/4in is more like 6.35mm.

5mm is half 1cm, which is about a finger's width; the one in that link is definite not it.

If the picture is correct. It's possible they could just be using the wrong picture. But if that picture is right then there's no way that's right.

The picture looks like 2cm-2.5cm (20mm-25mm).

Yeah that's just a wrong pic there Tiff.

According to that link they'd be the M3x5 DIN7985. They'd have to be fine threaded too. At least the old ones I have are.
Scratch that, was thinking of the wrong screws.

Finland might actually get fucking cold
This kinda made me laugh.
What? It's not like were in Syberia just yet. :D

It seems it's roughly the same as current HDD screws.

^ In fact those are the only PC screws I can recognize.

It's an SSD. It doesn't really matter how you secure it in. Just velcro that shit to the case and be done with it.

Be sure to get their magician program and enabled RAPID to get faster speeds and do a test run. I wanna see if yours is faster than my Pro (without RAPID).

Whoa whoa whoa, slow down there Tatsu. I only literally JUST NOW got Classic Shell installed. Let's see... lol I can't figure out how to even get to that in 8.1.

edit: I figured out why. It doesn't exist in 8.1: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2057222/8-1-features-microsoft-removed-from-windows-8-1.html

So I have a choice of getting the things I need to set up my PS4 (premium optical, 4-way optical, 2-slot table to move everything underneath, premium casein, isolated whey, and mardock scramble light novel) ... or either get my sister the printer she asked me for (fax, copy, scanner). Not sure what to exactly do ...
