file type help... soft to hard sub?

recently i downloaded hsod ova and its a mkv w/ soft subs. i wanted to watch it on my xbox that can only run avi or mp4s. any ideas. ive tryed converting it to mp4 but i loose the subs. anyhelp would be nice

A first tip would be to describe what software you've already tried and failed with.

it was a miix of mkvmerge piper (to extract the sub) and mymp4box to change the file format. would it just be easyer to turn if into a hardsub insted?

sorry, it's TV, not OVA.

Transcode the .mkv with Handbreak. It has the option of converting soft to hard subs. You can also use it to switch audio types like Flac to mp3.

I use it all the time for my picky hardware players that hate 10-bit, lossless audio, and softsubs.
