proper age to watch anime
Tatsujin:
First anime, ever? ... A young princess or wealthy girl, who lost all her funds and was imprisoned in a school or mansion and was given duties to clean, mob and do other chores. It was really old. And I was very, very young. Next time I saw another anime was Ghost in the Shell, around year 1998 or 1999. I was .... uh, I can't remember how old I was. I rented it from Blockbuster because I was so fascinated by the art and the story on the back of the DVD. Then, pokemon for ... 6-8 months and I got bored because it was stupid .. I was stupid for wasting my time on something stupid. Then, DBZ ... YESHHH!!! And then I didn't watch jack shit because I knew nothing about fansubs and what not until 2004 from a certain hidden forum - I stumbled on it from watching Scrapped Princess on winamp internet streaming things ... THEN! I learned about BoxTorrents, AnimeSuki, AniDB, TokyoTosho and .. AnimeYume ... oh god, what other sites were there? Anyways, I watched Scrapped Princess in less than 24 hours ... I was like "omfg THIS ART! What is it called?". So I asked on the forums, and someone told me "Anime", then told me "Japanese made", and I was like "... they did it again .. fuckers are super smart!". And then ... where was I? Ah yes! .. Then I watched Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and holy god I shit bricks of tears. I re-watched it like ... so many times, just thinking through it over and over again made me realize how human I was! God damn it, America ... you suck at making good shit. You too, Canada, Mexico, and all you other countries!
Excellent moments ... I shall endure this hardship until the end of my time.

Six years ago, and I'm over half a century old, a friend gave me a crappy rip of Spirited Away, split on CD, didn't really catch on. But about the same time, for some weired reason I bought the DVD for the Ghost in the Shell film. Eh. Then the DVD box for the Ghost in the Shell TV. Ehh.. Then I got the commercial DVD for Spirited Away. Ehhh... Then I got an old fansub of Kiddy Grade. Ehhhh....
WTF.
Who the hell had hidden these gems from me? This is nothing like the awful dubbed crappy game "anime" I'd frequently zapped past on TV... I realized I had lost decades of watching :'(
So now I'm catching up ;D

I was watching anime since kindergarten.

I can't really say "first" as I vaguely remember watching Dragonball, Voltron, and Speed Racer but I didn't exactly follow them as a fan. Around 96/97 a bunch of anime came here and a lot of it was awesome. Gundam Wing, Vision of Escaflowne, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, and more. I would say Gundam Wing was my favourite at the time since it was all mature and stuff, but seeing all these was more than enough to fascinate me in the art style and unique narratives coming out of Japan.
I was about 8 or 9 at the time.
Then 4kids started taking over everything and the anime became pretty dull, it wasn't until my learning about fansubs from playing around with Kazaa did I get into Evangelion, Trigun, One Piece, and Naruto.

I didn't even know what anime was at the time.
