Brazilian president: US surveillance a 'breach of international law'

To be honest, I hope we face international scrutiny for it and are forced to change.

That's not going to happen and we all know it. Who's going to pass a UN resolution against the US for it, when the US can veto it all they want. The german economy needs the US market for selling products on that superficial made in germany myth that still holds, thus we decided to ignore most of the issue that we are on the same espionage level as china for the US (heck why not start another world war and get a few territories back that till today are mostly german culture wise  ::) ) As long as we have an instable middle east, that can serve as a virtual enemy, the US has an excuse for everything they do.

If we had enough international pressure and no support back home from the people then there's no way our politicians would be able to not do something. It'd force their hand. That's why they hate the leaks... once the American people become outraged over something they don't have many options other than looking at it because it becomes political suicide not to.

Now we find the NSA is tracking people through social media. The kind of friends you can't unfriend.

This doesn't offend me as much since it's data that you are releasing publicly from your own accord. Analyzing publicly available information on the Internet can certainly not be compared to spying on your phone conversations.
Don't just assume that you are right. Verify with the best tools available and if you are wrong, change your mind and you will become right.

John McAfee reveals details on gadget to thwart NSA

I'm happy about that. The only thing is that it seems like it isn't really for home PC's but rather mobile devices.

It also seems like it will be mostly useless unless a large majority of the population buys one - and even then, not very fast compared to a standard internet connection.

On that note, NSA mines Facebook for connections, including Americans' profiles.

It'd be nice if the NSA was declared non-essential, and thus unfunded during the government shut down.

Huh, now I am going to have to read the Time article when it gets published to find out how Hayden is bashing the administration.
