Guilty Crown - (Not the main character, but especially how Tsutsugami Gai was!)
Spiral - The Bonds of Reasoning

What else...

EDIT: Also preferably not some ancient anime lol! I'm looking for more modern adaptions!

Hmm. One thing I'd like to mention is please don't substitute weird as the same as intelligent. Okay, sometimes a lot of intelligent, super brainy things like Death Note does come out to be a bit weird, but just because something is "sci-fi" and hence the 'world' the anime is set in, might be super-intelligent universe, does not make the actual plot/characters intellectual such as death note/lelouch in code geass etc.

I'm really looking for something where the main character is a lot more intellectual, preferably a guy. Sorry to not point this out before! Lol

Your request screams "pretentious" and none of the anime you have listed for reference are "intellectual" or "brainy". You don't even want to step out of your comfort zone. Bad attitude, man.

- Also, in terms of battle of wits, yes you could say that could do, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a battle against "others", as long as just the male is some awesome intellectual badass.

World that God Only Knows is probobly a good rec. There is a difference though between intellectual anime and an intellectual lead. GITS Lain and such the first rec gave you fits more of the intellectual anime. Saying super brainy intellectual made me think you wanted some thing to make you think more than just an intelligent lead.
