Need recent, non-ecchi anime
« on: July 10, 2013, 09:22:57 AM »
what the title says.  anything from Winter 2012 onwards. check out my MAL @ my sig for my taste in anime
(do take into account the ratings and dropped stuff, you may ignore the tags on either). specific preferences:
  • action preferred. (e.g. Sengoku Basara) don't care much about "deep" plots at the moment.

  • must not be moe stuff like Henneko. (content, not art style. higurashi/Madoka kind of stuff is A-OK.).

  • no comedies with perverted jokes, unless it's not the focus like in Danshi koukousei.

  • mecha is fine I guess. must be in Star Driver (ridiculousness), TTGL (character/plot development)
or Evangelion's (characters) caliber if you'll recommend one. I tend to hate mecha stuff in general.

  • avoid stuff like Sword Art Online. as in an anime that promises action but delivers romance. annoying, out of place romance.

  • if you can't recommend anything recent, I'll take sequels to stuff i watched as well.

DO NOT RECOMMEND:

Persona stuff, Fate Zero and other Type moon stuff. I am planning to watch em, but not now. need some light or cathartic stuff.

Gargantia eh, what makes that thing unique? heard it's as hyped as Attack on Titan. something i enjoy damn much. love the "Metalbending Police" steel slinging soldier thing with it. the titans are a second thought.

what kind of a ungodly trend did Oreimo start with naming schemes? that's fucking long. though seems unique enough. checking this thing out.

meh on FT. i guess i'll wait for it to finish or drop it. just hoping it doesn't get as unwieldly as 500 eps or something.

Wouldn't say it's slow paced. Actually it's pretty fast-paced. After 4th episode especially.
What makes it great is the plot and characters and the tense feelings you get.

The story is fairly unique/interesting...kinda out there though.  MC and his AI sidekick are pretty unique, I'd say the world is unique...unless you've seen waterworld.

I wouldn't call it unique, personally. The concept has been done with at least once before with Full Metal Panic... war meets slice of life. It's a decent series, that almost fell apart. But the ending saves it quite well.

I don't have any series to recommend (last few seasons have been pretty weak imo) but I will +1 Shinsekai Yori. That is a unique series. Pacing is fine. Not a deep or complicated story, but it really makes you think.

It's like Danshi Kokousei with some actual plot, a psycho alien, and fishing.

Here, have beers on me, both of you masters of summarising.
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.

Psycho Pass
Jojos Bizarre Adventure
Jormungand

Psycho Pass and Jormungand aren't straightforward action though, they have what the OP lists as "a deep plot".

But yeah Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (2012) totally fits.
