Just know that doing what you describe there will almost always kill the quality of the video (I used to do it, and absolutely hated it, especially when the subtitles get cut off at the bottom due to overscan). Generally, burning videos to DVD for DVD Player playback is not recommended, unless you're downloading DVD ISOs, which are pretty hard to find for anime.
As for computer playback, if you are a complete newbie and are uncomfortable with complicated installations, I'd point you at Zoom Player (the free one). Install it, and then run the Install Center, and everything you need to play back anything you can find on BakaBT will be installed for you. I don't think any of the other options get any simpler than that. The default settings are probably fine too. You'd just have to close a window once in a while saying how it's free software and that you should buy the paid versions to support it.
