Subtitles not showing/Multiple languages playing at once

Backstory: Basically I had the idea to get anime online for free and download it onto DVDs instead of buying the seasons from stores. I already know I'll probably have to convert the files to mpeg-2 or something that the DVDs will actually allow to be played on DVD player, but that's for later.

Problem: The files i have right now are .mkl, and are the 14 episodes of Elfen Lied in 720p. Here's a link to it to be more specific, http://bakabt.me/169307-elfen-lied-720p-h264-flac-10bit-coalgirls.html
The problem is when  play an episode in my media player (Windows Live Movie Maker. Yeah, I know. It's sad) it plays the Japanese dub (which I want), but leaves out the subtitles. Then when I try to play it on the other media player I have (Windows Media Player) it once again doesn't display any subtutles, but also plays the Japanese/English/German dubs all at the same time.

What's going on? Will my episodes be all messed up like this when I try to download them to DVDs?? I have no idea what's going on or how to fix it. Please help a newbie  :'(

I see that Windows Media Player is on the "Acceptable" list yet it is showing me otherwise with it playing 3 languages at once and no subtitles. Should I use a media player on the "Recommended" list or am I using what I have wrong?

It's on the "acceptable" list because it works for most files. It's not recommended (because, you know... it's not on the recommended list)

Okay so I suppose the problem must be my media player. I will download one from the recommended list tomorrow and see if the problem is fixed or can be fixed. But that leaves my other question. Will these same problems occur when I attempt to burn them to DVDs? Sorry for the possibly dumb questions. I've never done this before or experienced a problem like this.
