Why is Doraemon Completely Unknown in the USA?
« on: July 15, 2013, 01:19:38 AM »
Were any of its TV series and movies ever officially released in the USA?  It seems a bit strange that given its worldwide popularity, it's almost completely unknown here.

Worldwide popularity doesn't mean it's gonna be popular in the USA. A lot of series are like this.

I understand that, but it's still amazing no US distributor ever picked it up.  It's really funny, especially all the disasters that befall Nobita.   ;D

It's not really amazing or even a surprise no one picked it up. One it's an older anime and two it's overly too cartoonish. Granted they've picked up these types of series before, but if there isn't really a demand for it they don't bother. Makes perfect sense.

I imagine it was considered too long and too childish for the untested markets of the 80s, not merchandisable enough in the TV landscape of the 90s, and too old by the 00s and the TV/anime on DVD boom.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.
