Okay, I need to watch something that will blow me out laughing. The characters have to be silly, doing stupid stuff, sarcastic and the artwork has to be great!

Gintama was more like retarded I thought.

Nichijou - example1, example2... need more? every single episode is like that lol.
Full Metal Panic - the second season is super funny.
Ghost Stories - the English dub (it's not true to the anime itself, it's a joke dub but done by professionals): here's some examples
Clannad
Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro Chan - yeah. it's what it sounds like lol

Can't think of more off the top of my head but there's a lot...

Nichijou is the best/funniest comedy anime I've ever watched (although the mini series within nichijou I always skipped through cuz I thought it was retarded...but that's a very minor part of the show)

Hataraku Maou-sama
Yuru Yuri (although I found the second season to be...borderline unwatchable)
Hayate the Combat Butler (not asconstantly funny as the above ones, but has like 70 eps, so will keep you entertained much longer)

As for Gintama...I watched up to ~ep 50 and while it has it's moments I didnt find much of it very humorous...or very entertaining, but it's generally thought well of, so I'd recommend watching at least a few episodes to judge for yourself.

I can suggest some not so quite older animes. Like others are saying, Great Onizuka is one of my favorites. Others that have the ROFL humour are Slam Dunk & Hajime no Ippo.

Pugyuru is bizarre, off-the-wall humour.
Oruchuban Ebichu is adult humour and wild slapstick along with some introductory Japanese lessons
Working!! and Working'!! have some very funny running gags.
Mainichi ga Nichiyoubi has some great laughs and some outrageous situations.
Yurumates also has some great laughs. Different artwork in the 3D versions.
Genshiken is not really laugh-out-loud funny, but it's got some great otaku humour

Oh my god, I completely forgot this one..... Midori no Hibi (aka Midori Days). It's a fantastic little series, I wish there was another series, or even a new volume of the manga.

Demon Detective Nougami Neuro was quite funny, but then again I'm the kind that likes dark humor.

Hmm, I've already watched Ranma 1/2, Midori No Hibi, Gokusen, Ghost Stories, Jubei chan.

Anyway, I think I'll watch Azumanga Diaoh and as I said before, Nichijou!

You should most DEFINITELY watch Gintama.
I mean sure it has a slow start but it's worth it.

Other shows would be Nichijou, Danshi Kokousei No Nichijou, Azumanga Daioh and Joshiraku to name a few.

But Gintama is a definite must watch. Don't let the first few episodes out you off. In fact, don't let the first season put you off. It takes a while to get used to it's pace so by the second season you'll be laughing hard

Can't believe no one suggested Cromartie High School

Though it is kind of hit or miss comedy.
