Haswell: Behemoth Build | Tatsu's Room [2.22.2014]

Tiffanys:
Your RAM has huge things sticking up... I dunno if I'd call that low profile.

because if he doesn't then either D14(due to it's price and silentness) or Kraken X40 in silent-mode(again price and silentness, also performance wooper) should be a more tempting choice, i'm betting on the kraken.

I'm not thinking of overclocking, yet. I want to get the system running first with minimum parts, then all the parts excluding the GPU's, then install the GPU's afterwards. Then I'll do more research on overclocking the CPU. I may or may not overclock it.

The RAM will fit with the D14, it's a low-profile RAM.

The D14 isn't a pain in the ass to install, is it? Plus you can remove the fans easily or adjust them upwards or downwards.

Depending on the case (how big of a mother board install cut out you have) Will determine if you have to install it with the MB in the case or not I think most large air coolers are cumber some and difficult to work with to varying degrees, And if you want fans on the mesh side the could be possible clearance issues (not 100% sure) You could really run into lots of problem with them I personally run a 212+ and have a lot of difficulty doing things with out either moving the fan or just taking it off as a whole. (i.e. removing or adding HDs or messing with ram and dealing with cables.)

Edit : No his ram is not low profile but it will fit via noctua's compatibility charts and a slew of builds.

kitamesume:
i haven't heard of anyone complaining about installing D14, so i guess it isn't that hard.
the only thing is that you'll have to install it last to make sure everything else is already attached.

about the ram clearance, D14 has a good one, so long as you don't use ridiculously tall ram-sinks though.

edit: i wonder why they don't revamp the way ram is mounted, going with how sodimm mounts should mitigate any clearance issue for example.

Tiffanys:
I use computer towers that are upright so I dunno... If I used a D14 I'd be a little worried of the constant stress hanging down on the motherboard since it's not sitting upright.

Gh0st93:
Pretty much all the air cooler that gives these "miracle numbers" Put heavy strain on the mobo and if it gets knocked around or kicked or anything you run the risk of snapping the mobo. Which in turn could do a LOT of damage Especially if you pair it with a heavy GPU then it falls on it snapping the pci connection, etc. It could even damage the ram.  :P
