College and P2P Issue
Tri Helix:
Greetings, I've been a relatively long time user and love the site. I wish I could contribute more, but I live in the sticks and my 170kb/.2kb speed kills me.
On that note, I will be moving to a college campus within the next couple of days and they seem to be very gungho and no-nonsense about copyright infringement. Should I be worried, go dark, or not care?
SeventyX7:
I've uploaded 400 torrents on a college line. It's fine.
Just don't do movies/tv/video games/American shit.
Tri Helix:
Ah of course. Thank you.
buchno:
My friend got banned from the university wifi because he torrented libreoffice, so it really varies.
...he got the ban lifted later, though.
If they only care about copyright infringement, and not p2p overall, you shouldn't need to worry about bbt's content.
Southrop:
There's no way to say for certain. My uni uses eduroam's wifi network, and no one seems to care about torrents/file-sharing/whatever on that. However, the halls that I lived in in my first year had a very strict 3-strike no-P2P policy and a very extensive blacklist that even blocks sites like TorrentFreak.
