Anime that depict characters becoming gods (rec's)

I've put a post for discussing the actual ideas that come along with these anime on the appropriate forum. Basically I'm looking for anime in which the protagonist becomes God or a God-like figure. I realize that naming anime more or less ruins the story for innocent on-lookers, as the "God" plot is usually the defining feature of the narrative, so consider yourself warned.

Ample material in those alone. Any others that come to mind? A sidenote: a series like Death Note doesn't quite count, as the separation between the shinigami and man remains clear-cut.

Berserk - not its protagonist, but close.
Ah My Goddess Movie - temporarily.
Ghost Slayers Ayashi - temporarily.
Devilman Lady - questionable, and not exactly a god.
Gilagamesh - not its protagonist.
Narutaru - Shiina as an otohime by the end of the manga. However, anime series covers only its first half, and not the ending.
Twelve Kingdoms - not the main character, and his story is only partially covered in the second and fourth arcs of the TV series.

What kind of god are you looking for?

Fair question. Transcendent beings that exist outside of space and time, and are able to bend or change the rules previous established in the given anime.

Humans/beings that start off "normal" but are actually of archetypal importance. They eventually realize their purpose, which is to usher in a new world order (or some similar goal) through their ever-growing power. Ahh, this just reminded me that the 1980's

does this as well. The archetypes can come from established mythology (i.e. Greek or Biblical) or the anime itself.

If a character is called a God in the genuine sense, than that alone is valuable information.

Precisely that, and its rival anime (Xephon) as well. Am working through the suggestions so far, much appreciated! Let me know if anything else comes to mind.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Tenchi. It isn't expanded on and I'm hoping for more OVA goodness, but canon Tenchi literally becomes Kami, the ultimate being.

Seras Victoria fits this pattern, though she doesn't reach it by the end of either the manga or the anime. This is assuming of course that she survives long enough to acquire the level of power held by Alucard. (The manga is by far the better of the two.)

At the beginning Vash is portrayed as a bumbling goof, but as the series progresses it is slowly revealed that he really is worthy of his various titles and the $$60 billion bounty on his head. He's also not (at all) human.
