Torrenting from another computer with the same account
« on: August 30, 2013, 10:45:08 PM »
Hey all,

Not sure if this was the right place to ask this, but w/e. So I broke my other laptop with all my torrent files in it. Now I just got a new laptop and I was wondering if I'm allowed to torrent with a different one. The FAQ explained it, but I want just a bit more specificity. So now that I have this situation, what should I do from here on out? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, you can seed from as many computers as you want as long as they're all on the same network (I.E. have the same IP address) and as long as you aren't seeding a single torrent from multiple computers on said network.

You can use as many computers as you want. I've gone through 3 different IPs and computers so far while I've been on this site.

You can have different PCs on your account transferring/seeding files from different IPs as much as you like, AS LONG AS none of them duplicate a given torrent.  I use both a desktop and laptop, and often end up seeding at various venues, such as Starbucks, when on the road, while my desktop PC (which is always on) happily churns away.

This may not hold with some ridiculous number of IPs, but 2 or 3 is not even on the radar; my scenario is quite common among the userbase.

What about DLing? I've accidentally DLed a few torrents with my new PC and haven't gone through the trouble of copying the 'torrent key' or whatever needs to be done. So far I haven't been warned but have avoided DLing anything else before figuring out the proper 'protocol'.
Dunno what do you guys have against Windows 8... it just has a different start menu (fulscreen one). Otherwise it is same or better as before. - OnDeed

Who mentioned anything about a torrent key...?
As Bozobub said, as long as you don't seed the same torrents at both computers (and don't login at a friend's computer, who also has an account) you should be fine :)

If you don't seed the torrent you downloaded at a different computer, you can safely download it again.

Leeching from two different computers at the same time is also bad. Not that it's a good idea in the first place to double your ratio hit, of course.

Just don't run the same torrent at two different computers at the same time, seeding or leeching.
