Seedbox
« on: August 31, 2013, 11:09:25 AM »
Hey guys, i need a new and decent seedbox to move on. Recently i´ve signed with seedboxes.cc "vampire plan", but im getting very slow speeds on dl/up, so can you guys recommend me one? It could be a dedicated server as well, but my maximum budget is 25 euros.

I have read other topics like this one but they´re all old, so i would like new tips, cuz as things change, what was good yesterday could be terrible today, anyway, sorry for the bad english (not my mother language).

I've been using whatbox.ca for a few months now, and I'm satisfied with them.

They´re awesome, but i have left them because of low storage space. That´s why this month i´ve signed with the seedboxes.cc, worst decision ever

Whatbox changed recently. Their FlexNL2 plans have a huge amount of space available.

https://whatbox.ca/plans/flexnl
https://www.feralhosting.com/pricing

Depends if you want space or bandwidth I suppose. The FlexNL $25 plan is about the best space you can get on a box but you only get 3.5TB of bandwidth. It's the one I use. 1.35TB is quite a lot of space.

I can't do heavy seeding with it though without easily capping out my bandwidth, so if I'm on a high traffic server like BBT I only seed a handful of things to keep the bandwidth usage down and leave the rest for slower traffic trackers.

The Argon deal with Feral is pretty good, 8-9TB bandwidth with 800GB-1TB HDD and 1000/10000 speeds compared to 150/150 at Whatbox.

I've never used Feral though so I can't really vouch for them. What I do know though is that Feral is in London and as far as anti-piracy stuff... the UK is even worse than the US, and that's saying something. On the other hand, Whatbox is in the Netherlands which, well... that's about as good as it gets.

So, decide for yourself: More space, less bandwidth and less speed for better security, or less space, a ton more bandwidth and speed with the box in a pretty iffy location. I went with the prior rather than latter because I'm pretty paranoid lol.

Avoid OVH like the plague though. They've gone to absolute shit.

Exacly. I think you´re right. Guess im going back to whatbox lol. Hm but i think you should try the Heat plan, you can boost your monthly traffic. I have a friend that used the Flex NL and the HeatNL 4, and told me to go with the Heat. You should try this one too :)

HEAT was indeed good, and faster than all the others, but you must remember this: HEAT is based on US servers only, this means your data is subject to the laws in America when it comes to piracy. If you opt for the FLEX plans in NL, you are subject to NL laws, who don't give 2 fucks about piracy.

Its always the same shit, different characters (and lately, less plot)

Are you sure? Cuz in the new plans, you can choose the server now :) https://whatbox.ca/plans/heat

I've used various sized Whatbox Heat slots in all 3 locations offered (DE, NL, and US). They occasionally run out of stock in a particular location so you may looked at their plans when they had run out of both DE and NL slots.

Avoid OVH like the plague though. They've gone to absolute shit.

I would qualify this a bit further by saying that one should avoid OVH resellers. OVH's hardware and network are actually quite good when purchasing directly from them (cost vs performance). OVH has updated their policies quite a bit in the last few months while at the same time upgrading their network. This has resulted in some pretty weak offerings from seedbox providers that use them but they seem to leave individuals alone.

As far as the OP's question, I would definitely recommend you pick a Whatbox slot that fits your budget and activity. Having used both Whatbox and Feral, Whatbox offers a far better experience overall (better network, better management interface, less users on each system). The biggest reason to avoid Feral in my opinion is that they do nothing to prevent a user from seeing all of the other users' activity on the system with basic Unix commands (ps, netstat, etc). With a Whatbox slot you can only see your processes and network activity.

I´ve signed with whatbox again. Decided for the Heat NL 3 Plan, and it´s by far much much better in performance than the other one i was up to in seedboxes.cc :D

It is soo good that im already thinking in upgrade to HeatNL 4 plan next month :)

Thank you all for the help and support on it.

Cheers

Heat is garbage and not worth the money you pay for it.

You can't saturate peers with the HDD space they give you. You have the speed but unless you have enough torrents with people wanting to grab them you'll never use all that speed. You can't get the torrents to use the bandwidth without the HDD space.

It's only really good on public trackers where you don't really need a seedbox for anyways. Private trackers are generally have far less peers which means you need way more torrents to saturate your speed.

The $25 one. I don't think you could ever really need 2.7TB of HDD space and the first one just isn't enough.

I'd just avoid using resellers if you are looking for the combination of space and speed to use long term..

If your just looking to up your ratio and stuff cheaply and without effort, just use here https://www.seed.st/seedbox. Use the 1gbit-ssd to seed newly accepted torrents and delete and replace when other newer torrents pop up. Only $7 a week with amazing speeds, I had 86MB/s uploading on BBT one time. Pretty much how I was always top of the peerlist for the months I played with it.
