If you're not gonna carry a bag around just get the note 3, If you do carry a bag keep either a laptop or a 10 inch tablet in it.  :P

something around 7" or 8" in a belt pouch sounds even better, and i do think its the largest type of phone that can handle tablet workloads.

the thing i liked about belt pouches is that they seem to be unsnatchable, in comparison to a purse that is.

you would be surprised how quick the little things that hold it onto the belt tear or break if someone if snatching it from you

actually i doubt it, the strap were braided with metal cables, and my belt itself is metal too.

my belt is similar to this:

once it got caught on a pipe and the thing that broke was the lock on the main compartment instead of the clip that holds the pouch to the belt.

It seems you can only get smartphones these days, huh?

Never felt the necessity to get one, but nowadays... I might need to change my mind, though I doubt I'll use it for much else than calling, some E-Mail and occasional map checking. And I need a second phone for the holidays.

did you miss the talk a few pages ago?

Anyone have any experience with Sonim? I understand that they cost a lot because they are built to last and you pay for quality, but i wonder if they are really Ork-proof from inside out, and not just with a hard outside shell.

http://www.sonimtech.com/products.php
Interesting demonstration...

although yes, the progress with the smartphones have enough utility in it that it actually helps to have one.

edit: the use i have for my phone are a local map(saved onto storage), viewing novels and mangas, listening to music and watching videos. and to some extent browsing and chatting when theres a wifi hotspot.

Sweet, I will keep it in mind.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

Oh well since this is pretty much a rant all you want topic, guess I'll put my 2cts as well. As you all know, I can't stop myself from doing that.

although yes, the progress with the smartphones have enough utility in it that it actually helps to have one.

edit: the use i have for my phone are a local map(saved onto storage), viewing novels and mangas, listening to music and watching videos. and to some extent browsing and chatting when theres a wifi hotspot.

And the phone to me is purely for gmail, whatsapp, skype, sms, music, audiobooks, being a point and shoot I carry about me, and googling some technical terms when I need to read something in a foreign language with the occasional finding myself on the map once every other month.

Now, if you noticed, there's nothing in that list which would greatly benefit from having a large screen, or at least it's not necessary. So why the fuck is it impossible to a get a nice non-gimped version of a phone that has a smaller screen than 4.7 inches.

Anyway, I know how you like to pump out studies in all your arguments kita, so I'll bite. Here's an article that references a shitty study that shows people requiring far more time to operate larger phones compared to smaller ones. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/08/the-smallest-new-android-phone-you-can-buy-isnt-small-at-all/

The second thing I hate is the fucking drop dead infatuation with thinness.
1st, everyone is going on and on about how easy to brake phones are... Well, guess why? It's because you're carrying with you something that has roughly 100 square cm of face surface area while being some 8 mm thick. I wouldn't mind too much if it was a 10x10x0.8 plate steel we were talking about, but it's just not and that's not a recipe for something sturdy.
And what do people do with phones like these? Put them in fucking cases so they'll be sturdier, beating the point of a thin phone in the first place.

How about you get me something that is just bellow 2cm in width, that should about make the whole structurally sturdy enough to where people wouldn't need to bother putting it into a case and I could finally have a battery that would fucking last me a whole god damn day of use. Having a power bank in your bag should not be a necessity for anyone who expects to use a phone for the whole day.

Apple has always been a shit OS, but lately windows has started being shit in their attempt to emulate Apple.

I don't see how Windows 8 is anything like Apple...

Windows 8 is transitory. They're making the OS sleekier-looking and gaudier (I.E emulating apple) to appeal to the metrosexuals that like shiny things and useless apps/features and tablets.

imo windows should stick to it's roots and stay professional/business oriented, but I guess that's not likely to happen because they're blinded by Apples position and success on the stock market.

i dunno, most of the caveat the study mentioned i hardly do, i'm actually on the former that he mentioned
Quote
To begin with, the “right” phone size for a user has almost as much to do with personal preference as comfort. There are trade-offs to both options: a screen 5 inches or larger is better for browsing and can display more content at once, but a screen smaller than 4.7 inches, and especially smaller than 4.3 inches, is easier to operate with one hand. The smaller your hands are, the more you’d be affected by the comfort trade-off in a one-handed scenario.
due to what i do, i read and watch things that would've needed resizing with a tiny screen.
as for my hand size, well to give you a clue, you know those surgical gloves with standard size? is so loose on me so i'm guessing i'm around 5" in glove size.

although i found one flaw with their usage consistency study although yes too large wouldn't really be practical on one hand, they still didn't factor in "experience", which does influences operating speed, similar to driving a van or a sedan.

edit: as for the issue about "a large brick glued to your face" kind of thing during calls, i like my earphones with mic.
edit2: ahh i almost forgot, typing on a touchscreen smaller than 4" is cumbersome, so actually a larger touchscreen actually helps typing LOL.

Don't forget that making the thicker would not only improve structural integrity, but also improve the battery life, something that seems like a good idea for a phone computer that demands power for it's large screen and processing power.

Yeah. The "mobile" is a big fat lie. Even my SE Cedar can go for about two to three weeks without having to recharge.

In my place, when you talk about Nokia, most people in their 40's and up remember the brand (It's like Sony's Trinitron when you think of TVs) , young people forgot the days how durable it is/was, the late 90s then mid-2000s, Nokia was the king. There was a point in time when Nokia was the brand for the masses (Nokia 1200, over 1 billion units sold) however they were outnumbered by Chinese brands in China, India and most of Asia when it comes to cheap phones, Japan has cheap phones like the ones from DoCoMo and Korea...uh they are about 3 generic brands, you mostly see them on their TV dramas. Any company can have a phone, they just need to outsource it in China and rebrand like they own it. like a Hershey or Cadbury phones, I'm not saying these companies have one but some companies rebrand it like a usb flashdrive which is given away during holidays or company events.

I like the phones of Sony now not because it's a Sony brand, I like the designs but if you can't afford the price of Xperias, you can go to Samsung for half the price but the designs are mediocre or 'plasticky'. I don't understand people who buy Iphones then JB later, better stick to Android then.
