Vuze not sharing torrents so well... :-)
(1/1)
SuperDave:
Hello,
I've currently gotten the main episode files from another torrent site for a series (Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai (720p, 10-bit) [ANE] on BakaBT; although I don't currently remember where I got the torrent I have, which has the 15 main episodes with the two episode 12's). As far as I can tell, the files are the same. The only difference is that the torrent here has additional files that I'd like to have.
I found and followed the instructions provided by Vuze here for sharing files between two torrents; I've read in the BakaBT FAQ that it's a really bad idea to just add the BakaBT tracker to a public torrent. ;D IF I read those Vuze instructions correctly, it seems that if one torrent has files the other doesn't, those files will simply be added to the shared file space (directory). I've read the instructions posted here, which seems to allow for you adding already-existing files to a torrent file you download from BakaBT to let you start seeding.
I figured this was a good way to start seeding the main episode files immediately, while downloading the additional files that are here in the BakaBT torrent.
Now, when I added the BakaBT torrent file, it is using the same directory as the other torrent. However, Vuze doesn't see the existing files as being complete - they show blank and ready to start downloading pieces when I look at the details page for the BakaBT torrent, while the existing torrent details page shows those files as all 100% complete. File sizes on both details pages match exactly, as well as the file names. I paused the BakaBT torrent and then selected the "Force Re-Check" option for it and then restarted, but it still thinks those files need to be downloaded. I did right-click the Baka torrent and then selected Advanced > Files > Periodically recheck incomplete pieces (which is mentioned in the Vuze doc I mention above) and let it run a little bit, but it still thinks that the files are empty for the BakaBT torrent details, while the other torrent details shows them completed.
I'm kind of at wit's end here; I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if this is even possible, despite what I read in the above-two linked bits of information. I've currently got the torrent stopped because I'd like to NOT re-download the main episodes if I can avoid it.
So if anyone knows what I need to do or how I'm not doing it right, I'd love to hear about it. :-)
TIA for any info/help!

I'm having trouble understanding what you mean here, but I think I know what you're trying to say.
If I'm right, I'm willing to bet that this post will solve your problem.
By the way, remove the old torrent first, as clients tend to not like having two torrents access the same files simultaneously. Since Vuze is not erroring on you, it makes it all the more likely that the post linked above will be your solution.
SuperDave:
Bloody hell. Never mind, I found the problem. Too bad there's not a "duh" emoticon. lol
Turns out I missed a step, inadvertently. I knew of the step, but thought it didn't apply. One of the things that the Vuze document I linked to states is that you need to add the second torrent that's going to share the files with the existing one (which obviously I did <grin>), and then you need to select the Rename or Retarget option, so that the torrent is now using the same directory. This has to be done for each and every file, one at a time, in the new torrent. When I looked at where it was going to store the files, I didn't notice that it had added a little "-1" to the end of the directory name since Vuze saw that there was already a destination directory by that name. Since I didn't see the "-1" at the end, I didn't realize that it was, in fact, going to another directory; and thus that's why it showed the "already-existing" files as being empty. Oops. :-)
Since the BackBT torrent has soooooo many more files than the other existing torrent, I just stopped the other torrent briefly, manually renamed its directory, added the new BakaBT torrent in and then moved the existing files from the other torrent right on top of the empty ones that had been created with the BBT torrent got added. Forced a re-check on both torrents, started 'em back up, and now everything seems to be working. Yay! :D
Thanks for the reply, though - it was while I was starting to compose an answer to you that I took a closer look to make screen shots and so on, and *that's* when I noticed the directory names were different.
So, problem solved!
