TIPS for ratio

(1/2) > >>

Monkeyking73:
So Ive been a member for a long time, and in the early days when the community wasn't so big it was easy to maintain my upload ratio to 1 to 1 or even 1 to 2. But now that there are so many members Ive noticed a steady decline in my ratios. While its great we have such a large, generous community I am worried about falling under .5

So I'm asking for tips to help improve. My biggest problem is that when I get to a torrent, usually over 500 people have already finished downloading it, and half that are seeding. While this makes it great to leech, it's difficult to seed. So I'm asking how do I get to a torrent before the masses? Ive checked the offered link, and skimmed over the faq, but there is no info there about when torrents get approved. Is it always the same time same day? If so, can anyone tell me? Not sure if this matters, but Im a power user, but not an uploader.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, I'd like to be a better member of our community.

Just don't delete the BakaBT torrents you've downloaded after they finish DLing, then leave your BitTorrent client on to seed whenever it won't be inconvenient. I used to just turn them on when I went to sleep and then off again when I woke up. After not too long I hit a 2/1 ratio, then within a year after that I had a 5+/1 ratio and realized I would have to download around 4000 GB to even get back down below 1/1. I only torrent for a few days after downloading at this point, and really only do that to help out, as it would be decades before I could eat through the buffer I already have anyway.

If for some reason this won't work for you, you could always just log out to download things once you've found what you're looking for. This is a public tracker after all, no need to even have an account to torrent anything. =D

Although it does not prevent you from seeding torrents in anonymous mode either.

Freedom Kira:
Power users and higher can access newly added torrents 24 hours before they are made available to regular users and the general public. If you want to grab brand new torrents early, feel free to visit the Browse page and refresh a few times a day. You can also add an RSS feed to get notified of new torrents immediately, and some clients support adding torrents via RSS so you could actually start downloading a new torrent as soon as it's added. Only problem is you can't filter, so you'd be downloading every new thing that comes in.

And yeah, generally seed stuff forever. Leave a box on 24/7 that just seeds BakaBT torrents, and seed at least 50 torrents at a time. The more torrents you seed, the more able you will be to maintain a high upload rate.

I do leave up my last ten torrents, perhaps I just dont leave my client on for long enough. I'll try just leaving it on when Im out of the house.

No, I want to be a contributing member of this community. Ive watched it grow into what it is now, and am glad that I always made it a point to seed before. I wouldn't feel right just leeching.
Thanks for the advice everyone, I think things will work out regardless. I'm not in any real danger of falling under the cap, I just miss seeing my ratio above one.
