Nothing to do with DEEN. They're merely hired to make the show, everything else is not their decision to make.

I've come to learn that Earth Star Entertainment (the show's main sponsor) is known to produce mostly shorts. Teekyu, Mangirl! and Yama no Susume are all short anime derived from manga that they publish (with the latter being upgraded to a full 24-minute show this year), so I guess the writing was on the wall all along, and most of us (me included) were merely in heavy denial.

It doesn't really bother me, though. It merely means I'll have to set the bar higher, because enjoying a short show is a lot trickier than a normal one.

One thing is for sure: I seriously doubt this show will become a hit. It features a lot of questionable content, and horror shows don't usually do well with the Japanese otaku in the first place. Plus, the manga has already ended, so this looks like ESE just trying to raise awareness for the manga and not really expecting to get much out of the anime.

megido-rev.M:
They don't do well with horror shows, but HSOTD is a-OK.

The graphic is amazing, but the storyline just jump from one scene to another, skipping few pages of the manga with each "jump". It is hard to follow and the studio almost ruined the anime.
12x3min is too short time for this show.  :-|

Lord of Fire:
I haven't read the manga, but from what I hear, a full format would be too long, though I personally think a bit longer would have done the manga more justice, as it would give the studio more time to tell the story and build the characters.

They seem to have gotten the bare essences down, but a bit more exposure in between scenes wouldn't hurt, so it would probably have been better if the episodes were something like 10 minutes, rather than 4.

Given the censorship, I'm debating whether to continue watching, or wait till the BD comes out.

cold_hell:
The manga also skips some moments, so there is enough material for 20mins with little exclusive script for the anime.
(click to show/hide) (click to show/hide)However they missed a key point in the story, when they skipped how the father stopped them, and 'you are the same as me, you will give up in the moment when it is hard for you' thing or something like it (I don't remember) that later made Utsutsu to not give up regardless of his pain when his little sister feed from him
